Extract of sample "Move-in Violence"

Move-in violence occurs when natives of the host country do not let the new immigrant integrate and establish into the society by dealing with the immigrant in ways that qualify to be classified as racist and/or violent. Several factors contribute to the spread of move-in violence that include but are not limited to xenophobia of the natives, and racism. “One of the most commonly understood justifications for the creation of these white neighborhood spaces is the phenomenon of “white flight,” where large numbers of middle and upper-class white people flee neighborhoods in search of new spaces that are predominantly white” (Bell, 2007, p. 49-50). Move-in violence can occur in several ways. It can be as severe as a native citizen threatening and/or bullying the immigrant to the point that he/she feels like leaving the host country, and can be as mild as misguidance of the immigrant by the native citizen in matters of settlement in the host country.

Communities can do a lot to reduce the impact of move-in violence upon a new immigrant, because of their awareness of the culture, laws, and regulations of the host country. This can be achieved by establishing centers for the guidance of new immigrants on residential and employment matters that may/ may not charge some fee. In addition to guiding the new immigrants with these matters, these centers should also spread awareness among the new immigrants about their rights so that they may know the right course of action to take when they are offended or someone tries to subdue their rights.
