Extract of sample "Legislative Act: U.S. Federal Fair Labor Standards Act"

The act makes it necessary for the employers to pay at least minimum national wages to the workers and overtime of one-and-half times the regular pay rate. In this way the act safeguards the employee’s rights and proscribes the unfair treatment of the workers. The law also decided the minimum working hours for the children under age 16 for certain agriculture and nonagricultural jobs and discourages child labor in the country. It implies that the act provides a guiding framework to the employers and directs them towards vindicated management of the employees’ matters (Grossman, 1978).

FLSA is closely linked with the tenets of Humanistic era because it affirms the philosophies and ideologies divulged by the humanistic theorist and insists that the employees must be granted due rights in exchange for their work. The humanistic era is also marked with the struggle to give identity to the labor and recognition of their rights and dignity. Likewise, FLSA also stresses upon the fundamental role of humans in running a business and thus calls for their rights and justified wages that should not be below national minimum wages (Grossman, 1978).
