Knutsford Hosts is a community based volunteering scheme that gives people from all occupations the opportunity to train as volunteers and get the nationally recognized certificate that allows them to practice as such across all towns in the country. These trainings are free of charge. Knutsford is receiving its funding from the Big Lottery Award for this pilot project. In addition to that, the organization is receiving some backing from Knutsford Town Council as well as local charities supporting not-for profit organizations. Locals run Knutsford. The fact it offers the qualifications at no fee it will indeed attract the attention of your readers whom we believe are keen to give back to the community. The initiative has been operating on a low profile for some time now since 2013. We believe that with the activities in the past, such as the background check on the volunteers, their backgrounds and their major reasons for joining the scheme being public this release will create a buzz in your newspaper, as the article will be exhaustive. Available in this press pack also is an introduction to Knutsford Hosts, our location and the activities we conduct. I humbly request you to go through the pack and be well informed. If you have any questions or concerns you can always contact me. I await your favorable response. Kind Regards, Sarah Flannery Director of Knutsford Hosts Sarah.flannery @knutsford.org.uk PRESS RELEASE For immediate release Reference: Knutsford Hosts Knutsford’s volunteering project: The first of its kind! Knutsford volunteering pilot scheme trains individuals of all ages in community volunteering to help become better citizens in their towns and support the towns. This wonderful initiative is being launched on April 1, 2014. The mission of Knutsford Hosts is quite simple and unique as it gives everybody an opportunity to be of use to the society at no cost. It is also vital in career building, curriculum vitae development and enhancing skills of the individuals. Knutsford Hosts’ will be instrumental in some events such as the world book day in March where the hosts will read books to the enthusiastic primary school going children at Manor park as well as St. Vincent’s all in Knutsford. The other events include the artisan market in April, the Knutsford beer festival also in April and an event whose date is yet to be confirmed known as the “welcome” event that will see the mayor, Cllr Barbara Coran welcome those who have decided to be part of Knutsford Hosts (Knutfordhosts, n.d, n.p). Since its inception, the organization has brought on board other partners such as ‘Knutsford Town Council’, ‘Community Spirit’, ‘Knutsford Heritage Centre’, ‘Great places Housing Group’, ‘Peaks and Plains Housing’ and ‘The Welcome’. Therefore, volunteers get an opportunity to network while working with Knutsford Hosts. END For more information, please contact Sarah Flannery, Director at Knutsford Hosts at Sarah.flannery @knutsford.org.uk or by telephone on 0052 3456 0978 NOTES TO EDITORS About Knutsford Hosts Knutsford Hosts is an initiative that gives individuals the opportunity to develop their skills in volunteering for their community and creating a positive impact in the end in all the towns that these people come from. The idea was born out of the 2012 “ Gamesmakers” who made the 2012 Olympics a success in the UK and the fact that at the relay of the Olympic torch in Knutsford many clamored to be part of the volunteer team. The major goal of Knutsford Host is to create qualified community volunteers who will help the town to carry out events successfully while at the same time boosting their skills and building on their curriculum vitae. Looking to the future the initiative hopes to bring more partners on board and especially the media industry so that the activities can feature across the country and help them market their volunteers even as they give back to the community. Additional details Information about the trainings are available online at www.knutsfordhosts.co.uk Photos of some of our activities as well as volunteers too are also available to the public on our website SOCIAL MEDIA PRESS RELEASE CLIENT: PR REPRESENTATIVE Sarah Flannery Johnstone Churchill Suit 43C Knutsford Town Building Knutsford Hall West 113-116 Jumbo Street 14th Street Avenue Knutsford, K2 5PZ 114 K69 Tel: 0052 3456 0978 Tel: 1004 6654 7789 Knutsford’s volunteering project: The first of its kind! Knutsford initiative set to launch the biggest number of qualified volunteers The beginning of a volunteering city in Knutsford and spreading the gospel to other cities and towns across the UK, that is the mission of a Knutsford Hosts initiative started by Sarah Flannery. The major goal is to train individuals of all ages the art of volunteering and award them with certificates to allow them practice anywhere in the country building on their CV and enhancing their skills as well as giving them an opportunity to serve their communities and towns in general. Sarah Flannery Knutsford Town Council “Ours is an idea to develop volunteers who will have a platform with qualification to serve their communities and towns. We are keen on producing quality volunteers who can fit any situation when called upon to act or through self-drive. The fact that these individuals voluntarily turn up for the trainings is an indication that they love what they do and so we believe that their output will be of great success given the love they have for volunteering.” Sarah Flannery, Director Knutsford Hosts We are on all these social sites find Knutsford and keep tabs with what we are doing. SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT Blogs Blog 1: KNUTSFORD HOSTS: Giving volunteerism a platform Knutsford Hosts is an initiative run for the benefit of volunteers across Knutsford but not limited to Knutsford. We are passionate about volunteerism and are bent on doing all we can to have the best volunteers in the UK. The idea was born after the London 2012 Olympics when several volunteers turned up to help with the games and especially with the Olympic torch relay in Knutsford. It is in line with this that an idea to connect the volunteers with the skills of volunteering was born. The process is intense with serious background checks and intense questioning before one becomes part of the training as partners would not wish to give out their funds only for the would be volunteers to fall by the wayside. The organization collaborates with several other organizations and even the local government to ensure that everyone gets involved. Among the key partners, include the Big Lottery Fund and the Town Council of Knutsford. The support has been immense and the success rate even better with more than 150 volunteers, graduating and being fully qualified with certificates that allow them to practice in any part of the country. The perception has changed and many people are involved in volunteering and helping their communities. The organization is growing and the young men who use it as a platform to build on their careers are increasing by the day. Those out of work too are not behind and a big number use this initiative to expound on their experience. There has been a lot of work so far, but a lot remains at hand. It is in line with this that more partners need to come on board to help boost this great initiative to another level. The office is up, but they need to work with others too, so that the load is not too heavy for them to carry. If you would like more information, please visit www.knutsfordhosts.co.uk (This would be one of the first entries after the launch as it intends to create more awareness and at the same time call on more partners to come on board and support the work started by Knutsford Hosts. The target audience is the organizations supporting charitable work and the entire community to join in the good work. It overlaps the press release as it happens after the launch. 335 words to be posted immediately after launch) Blog 2: Guest blog: John Wilmart on volunteerism: A waste of time or an opportunity in waiting? Hey, people out there, my name are John Wilmart. I am a trained volunteer with Knutsford Hosts where I attained skilled in community work last year. I volunteered with the initiative for some time as I was just from college back then. One year down the line, I sought a letter of recommendation from the initiative director, Sarah Flannery who did not hesitate to do so. I then decided to update my curriculum vitae with work experience derived from volunteering. When I went for my interview after making an application with Save the Children (UK) I was asked where I have worked before in relation to serving the community. I then used the experience from the volunteer work as my major backing, which then secured me the job. I must admit that prior to the volunteer work, I had no major experience in the field of community mobilization, but over the course and some volunteering here and there I became a star in this field. Today, I am a community mobilize with Save the Children (UK) and it is all because of the work done by Knutsford Hosts. I would wish to take this opportunity to encourage all young men and women out there who are looking for work to inquire from Knutsford Hosts and volunteer to gain the necessary experience to allow them to enter the job market. This platform will allow people to have the opportunity to get into the job market and gain the much-needed experience in the job market. This is not therefore a waste of time as many would perceive it, but it is an opportunity in waiting. (This entry is for the subsequent years to encourage more people to join and especially the youth who are unemployed) Rationale for using social media: statistics have shown that many people prefer to post issues on social media for the simple reason tha social media has many users. Ideally, the intention of the social media is to be able to reach a diverse audience. This will allow many people to get to know about the program and through that, more people are able to be recruited. Tweets Tweet 1: Many fantastic and encouraging stories to make you be part of the bigger picture #knutsford hosts. Can’t wait for the launch! Are you coming? Tweet 4: Quite a memorable occasion of the launch of the big Knutsford Hosts. Many happy returns to all who turned up! Anyone wants to share his views with us? Tweet 5: Overwhelmed with the turnout so far towards the volunteer training #knutsford. We need suggestions on how to do this better… Press release gantt chart Press and PR activity schedule This gantt chart gives a visual arrangement of the activities that are expected before, during and after the press release. There are individual dates and time for every activity. This will form a basis through which the programs leading to the press release will be carried out. Every activity leads to the other. Even though the activities could be carried out in isolation, the essence of a sequence is to maintain consistency and reliability in giving out information to the general public. TARGET MEDIA LIST The major target media will be those based in Knutsford both broadcast and print. National media houses may be included, but the priority lies in the local stations since the activities will be based in Knutsford town. Photo opportunity 1: Group shots featuring the mayor, the directors of Knutsford Hosts as well as the volunteers. The media need to organize itself in a way that they will be able to take these photographs in turns. The media will benefit as this group photos can be posted to other parts of the country in the process of enhancing the initiative’s work. Photo opportunity 2: There will be photographs s well as videos made available for all the media houses showing the actual practical work that the volunteers do while in trainibg at the initiative. This will boos the reporting of the media as the public will have an indepth understanding from the photographs. The media is expcted to produce an identification card to ascertain their places of duty so that no imposter takes the photos for individual benefit. Photo call of press photography This photo call is indicative of what is to be expected during the volunteer program. The essence of this is to let the members of the press to get acquinted with the volunteer operations that are yet to be established. This is only but to give a feel of what is expected during the press release. It also gives the media fraternity to conceptualize and break down the content of the program to the general public. This will be critical in the sense that during the press release, there will be a general feel about the program. It will hold brief and up to the point information about the initiative as a whole. This is an example of a self-explanatory flyer that the initiative hopes to use to advertise the various roles the volunteers can perform. Rationale: the rationale of the flyers to have as many people as possible get to know what exactly the operations will entail. The flyers give diagrammatical representation of the what is expected at the volunteer program. Various people are able to get a clear picture of what will be taking place by visualizing through the flyers provided.
