Efforts of the scientists to investigate nature are fine but it is foolhardy to think that nature can be challenged, ultimately be conquered and its forces can be held under human subjugation. Adventurism and never-say-die attitude are the stepping stones for the citadel of spirituality. Spirituality is not renunciation of action but participation in action. The type of spirituality Cooper practices, though nowhere in the book it has been categorically been admitted by him, is of the latter category.
His hopping from one career from other in the area of print and electronic media bears testimony to his restless spirit. As such Cooper is well-known for appearing in the world’s most troubled spots to report. War is the greatest act of sin as it causes intentional pain to others. Wars change the map of the world; wars change the course of human history. Wars wipeout human lives in millions and cause colossal damage and destruction to property. When man-made disasters go in tandem with natural disasters, humankind faces the ultimate calamity.
Cooper is fascinated to do reporting on such grave incidents, challenging the personal risks involved to his life. As such he is one of the highly respected and much-loved journalists. An author may try intelligently to avoid one’s individual experiences, trials and tribulations, but the impact of the same would necessarily reflect in his writings, characterizations and opinionated statements. Cooper lost his father when he was 10 years of age, and his brother committed suicide at the young age of twenty-three.
