The variables covered by the article include the level of social media involvement in journalism, changes in the traditional media platform as a result of social media growth. The research question in the article is “has social media created a need for re-conceptualization of mass communication and journalism?” the sampling method employed is the use of surveys while the data analysis involved deriving measures of central tendency and regression analysis.
The findings show that social media is reshaping journalism and the relay of information. The article lays a basis for the research on the influence of social media on news reporting. The research questions are: How are the features and innovation associated with the Internet perceived by European journalist? What are the main changes that occurred or may occur in the various fields of the profession since the advent of the internet? Forty of the most read newspapers based on print sales were selected and participants cover 11 European countries.
The research method employed was the use of questionnaires. The data collected was analyzed using regression and factor analysis. The findings show that the Internet has shaped journalism significantly. The article is the primary source for the research because it gives primary data of the study area. The influence of internet on the performance of journalist is analyzed in the article. In fact, the influence of internet in the day-to-day journalism is addressed in the article. Certain transformations have been witnessed in journalism in the last decade. These changes include news flow, daily journalistic routines and professional accountability. The internet offers a platform for the development of the diverse communication styles which defines new media. The dependent variable used by the researcher in the article is the adoption of internet applications.
Independent variables in the study were journalistic opinion about utility, credibility and accuracy. The research questions for the research is; To what extent do differences in perceived utility relate to the differences in journalists’ actual use of internet applications? The geographical area selected for the data collection is Netherlands and Belgium. The data collection method employed is the use of web questionnaire. The findings indicates that almost all journalist use internet daily in three applications namely; e-mail, websites and search engine.

The article covers the use of blogs as a platform of communication in people with political interests. The trust and acknowledging of the use of platform is essential in journalism. The research question is to establish the extent of judging blogs as credible source of news and information by politically interested groups. Data collection was done by use of online survey of politically interested users.
Variable measurement included blog use and credibility, political attitudes, internet use and online activities. The results indicate a weak relationship between political attitudes. The focus is on the use of blogs on politics. The research question is; are the political current event blogs sampled in the study a form of alternative media? The study employs content analysis and critical discourse using deductive approach. The sampling process of the research included selection of all the available political blogs in short duration of time. The findings from the research indicate that blogs are used as insular echo chamber that extends the reach of the main stream news. Therefore, they act as supportive tools to the main stream media which maintains the traditional media platform.
The article will be useful when analyzing the use of blogs as a platform for communication. Meraz, S. (2009). Is There an Elite Hold? Traditional Media to Social Media Agenda Setting Influence in Blog Networks. Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, 682-707. Blogging is a new media platform attracting writers and readers. It is popularly viewed as a form of social media. The article by Meraz questions the agenda setting and social influence of elite traditional media outlets. In addition, she analyzes how the traditional media are using blogs tool to pass information.
The four research questions covered by the article are: To what extent do independent bloggers of political ideologies depend on citizen versus media? Is there evidence that the balance of mass media to citizen media influence differs among independent bloggers of diverse political ideologies based on different types of issues? The sampling involved extracting 28 most popular U.S. political blogs from across ideological spectrum. It employed the use of correlational techniques with the period of July 20, 2007 to September 30, 2007 being selected.
One way ANOVA test was conducted in the analysis at 95% confidence interval. From the findings, independent blog platforms are redistributing power between traditional and citizen media.
