All these conveniences are brought by media convergence, which is made possible by the presence of the Internet. Media convergence does not simply imply the merging of media contents into a single hub. It had a deep impact to society that changed traditional means of communication into its modern form. An example of which is the creation of emails, and the social media that are now being used to connect with people around the globe by the modern generation. One evident change that media convergence has imparted to everyday life is in the aspect of convenience both in time and cost. When speaking of time, media convergence has allowed people to make use of a single device in, for instance, doing a research work since they do not have to spend much time in the library to search for sources due to the availability of online books, and scholarly journals in online databases. Many people are also able to save cost because instead of buying multiple devices to watch a movie, they may opt to purchase a single device that has all in one features. This may also point out to the development of business concepts like vertical integration and horizontal integration that requires the convergence of technologies to effectuate. Businesses need to integrate vertically or horizontally to administer resources and increase profit. The role of media convergence in this measure is in the process of speeding up the integration of the participants in the supply chain. For example, companies from different industries may merge and formulate business models, which they can apply to improve business performance, or a firm may develop its own strategy and utilize resources to expand the business, thus, leading to the ownership of the essential areas in the supply chain. In both cases, media convergence remains a main ingredient because this aids firms to make use of the Internet as a medium to communicate with the key players in the business. Media convergence in business has transformed the conventional ways of doing business worldwide. It has inspired companies to undertake the challenge of modifying communication strategies for it to adapt to new-fashioned methods of corporate governance. Thus, it may be inferred that media convergence in business allows firms to experience conveniences despite its complex nature allowing them to either expand or establish connections that make it easy for them to provide excellent services to consumers. Media convergence bridges the gap between the firm and its supply chain, which enables these firms to meet the demand of the market amidst the increasing stiff competition in the business industry. To that end, media convergence ...Download file to see next pagesRead More
