The paper “Mayo Clinic - Global Information Systems Strategy Personal Health Records“ is an outstanding variant on case study on information technology. There are many activities involved in the process of improving the personal records of patients. This paper provides a strategy that can be followed in the process of ensuring patient health records are maintained effectively at Mayo Clinic. It also proposes a strategy that can be followed in the process of keeping patient health records so that improvement is made in the present methods of records keeping. In the implementation of the new PHR system, it suggests that there should be a committee that performs the role of ensuring all objectives are met and the right professionals are selected to provide training to employees of a health care organization. In addition, it suggests how the management of Mayo Clinic can implement information technology in performing various roles in the implementation of the PHR system. This is illustrated by explaining the role of various forms of electronic records keeping systems such as electronic health records EHR and Computerised Provider Order Entry (CPOE). In addition, this paper explains various costs that are likely to be incurred during the process of implementing the new health records management systems. It is found that there are many advantages that will be achieved by the management of Mayo Clinic when it implements Personal Health Records System such as reduced errors and an increase in a number of patients served successfully at a time.

Implementation strategy within 90 day

Preparation stage
During the implementation of PHR management at Mayo Clinic, the person responsible for implementation will investigate the current record-keeping strategies and understand the limitations that are evident so that these limitations can be addressed. In addition, the person involved in implementation must ensure solutions to the current personal records keeping strategies are formulated so that they are incorporated during the implementation process. This is expected to last a period of 10 days. This will be followed by selecting the steering committee. This committee will be responsible for making policies such as the professionals who should be recruited to take part in the implementation of personal health records in the health institution (Brennan, 2008). The steering committee will also determine the areas that the professionals should focus on during the process of implementing personal health records management as well as the number of funds that need to be set aside so that the action of implementing the strategy is achieved. These two processes will continue until the 20th day.

Determining PHR be managed by the new strategy
This will be followed by the preparation of a clearly defined statement of the type of personal health records to be implemented. For instance, the person responsible for the implementation of PHR must determine whether there are different records for people of various demographic characteristics such as age, gender as well as those for the physically disabled on those that have physical impairments (Jakob, Mathiassen and Axel 2004). This process will continue up to the 25th day. This should followed by establishing the perceived benefits of the new personal health records management system. For instance, the person involved in implementing the new PHR management system should determine whether it will result in increased accessibility of health records, increased privacy as well as the accuracy of keeping personal health records. this process is expected to last for 10 days hence will end on the 35th day of project implementation.
