Based on the serious changes in the society today, the need for advancing security that is able to effectively handle security threats in organizations has increased. Most of the organizations nowadays have opted to install surveillance CCTV in the organization premises due to high incidences of insecurity. The design considered the views and ideas of stakeholders and all involved party to ensure satisfaction and effectiveness. With the introduction of new technology, the design of surveillance CCTV system in the gold storage facility consider incorporating alert function, internet, digital cameras, and trained personnel who have the capacity to handle them effectively (Karmis M., 2001). The digital cameras will be able to monitor intrusion, operations in the facility and be in a position to identify theft attempts in the organization. In addition, it gives clear and colored pictures of individual within the premises despite the distance. On the other hand, the integration of software, programs, alert alarm system, and the internet, the surveillance CCTV system will be in a position to identify the number plates of vehicles entering the gold storage facility and the illegal activities then alert the security and controller in control room (Barnard. R. L., 1988). The design was effective and sophisticated due to the fact that it is able to detect intrusion, identify number plates of vehicles entering the gold storage facility and efficiently maintain safety of the premise. On the other hand, the design has properly selected the digital cameras depending on the level of security they are expected to maintain, the lighting systems available, and the environment installed. Other factors like lenses, lining, cabling, video recording and the height of installation were also considered and covered well in the design. Therefore, this report will discuss the effective surveillance design that will be installed in the gold storage premises to maintain safety and security in the premise (Matchett. A. R., 2003). The most critical areas where the design gave more emphasize was the main entrance, gold storage room, and the fence because workers may be tempted to steal the gold through the fence. In addition, the CCTV surveillance system covers all the areas in the premise starting from the parking area, all the buildings, to the workshop building (Self, D., 2010). Through the assessment process carried out by the design team, areas of threats and vulnerability were identified. In addition, the process enhanced the understanding of members concerning the gold storage facility and the surveillance CCTV system that can effectively protect the environment from intruders, theft, and other risky activities. Different models of cameras have been designed and used depending on the environment installed, the level of surveillance it provides and lighting available (Botin. J. A., 2009). Therefore, the design configuration comprises of 19 cameras, which are strategically located to detect intrusion and other risk incidences like theft. Site layout The organization of gold storage facility comprises of six areas as indicated in the appendix: the gold storage area, workshop, office and reception area, the parking area, main entrances, and the fence that protect the premise from illegal intrusion. From the main entrance, an individual will first come across the parking area, the control room, and then through the auto sliding gate, a person gets to the gold processing building and the workshop. Finally, the fence that surrounds and protects the premise was part of the facility. Risk management and assessment Based on the assessment carried out by the design team members, they were able to identify theft, intrusion of strangers, illegal operation activities among the organization workers, and entry of vehicles into the premises. When strangers or intruders get into the premise without permission from the management or authority, it increases the chances of insecurity in the environment (Jeffrey, L. A., 2004). In addition, the threat of insecurity may be among the workers in the facility when they illegal sneak out with gold or organize with members in the society to steal gold. Due to these risk factors, the management decided to install the surveillance CCTV system that will facilitate monitoring and video recording of operation activities in the organization. The protection system was considered to be the best in maintaining security because it operates independently without depending on the intervention of human being, hence more reliable and accurate. On the other hand, it reduces the number of security personnel who are potential risk because they can be easily manipulated. Based on the value of gold and the insecurity factors analyzed, the design team has designed an effective surveillance CCTV system with the capacity of alerting the controller in the control room, the management through their mobile phones, and even providing clear and colored video recording, a factor that provides the evidence. Therefore, through the identification and recognition of vehicle number plates, detection of intruders, monitoring of operation activities in the gold storage and alerting the person in charge, the security of the facility will be managed effectively (Gustin J. F., 2004). Types of cameras designed and their functions Some of the digital cameras that have been considered in the design include vandal resistant, professional, outdoor, indoor, dome, pan-tilt-zoom, and bullet, covert and color due to their surveillance capacity. Following the security risks in the gold storage facility, the design opted to use digital CCTV cameras that are have the capacity of effectively monitoring and clearly video recording the operation activities in the facility (Kruegle, H., 2007). Different digital cameras were installed in different areas depending on the area environment conditions. Moreover, these cameras were to face in a direction away from sun rays to avoid blurred images. In a situation where it was required to face the sun rays, it was tilted and covered well to ensure its effectiveness. In outdoor applications, the color day or night cameras were selected because of its ability of function well during the day and automatically switching to B/W during the night when using infrared illumination. On the other hand, some of these cameras are able to switch themselves to low color mode at certain levels of light and still producing clear and clean pictures. However, these cameras have the capacity of maintaining color video when enough illumination is provided. Moreover, the design also used bullet cameras both in the outdoor and indoor environment due to its built-in weatherproof ability. However, these cameras are not able to change their lenses. For clear identification and detection, color day/night cameras were used in the design. The proper selection of digital cameras will enhance the performance of surveillance CCTV camera system by facilitating detection, identification, and monitoring. The color day/night cameras also perform well when internet, alert function system and new technology are incorporated. Gustin J. F. (2004) indicates that the digital cameras are suitable for the gold storage facility because they eliminate issues of distance by providing quality images despite the distance (p. 12). The selection of good cables during the design stage helped in improving the performance of digital cameras. Moreover, proper and effective illumination enhanced the quality of pictures and video recorded by the cameras, hence helping the organization attain its goals and objectives of managing security in the facility. Therefore, the digital cameras will be able to function effectively during the night, rain season, and in some cases of fog or mist. Camera installation The design positioned the cameras at a height that enable them record operation and activities effectively. In the installation of outdoor surveillance cameras, it considered the sun set and rises. This was important because sun may create glare during video recording, a factor that makes video images useless (Fennelly, L. J., 2004). The design selected the height that will facilitate effective monitoring and video through the downward viewing of cameras. This way they will be able to produce clear and clean video and image by avoiding direct sun rays. For the indoor cameras, the height of mounting is limited by the ceiling. Thus the height of about 8 feet high is enough for mounting the digital camera. On the other hand, for esthetic purposes the design also considered sizeable digital cameras that will maintain the smartness of the room. Due to the 90 degrees view of most digital cameras, they were position in corners for the case of indoors cameras in order to maximize their views (Cieszynski, J., 2007). Thus, the installation of digital cameras in the gold storage facility will effectively manage to maintain security through proper monitoring, identification, and constant communication to people in the control room and other security personnel via alarm alert system (JVSG, 2012). Most importantly, their strategic location and positioning will facilitate complete coverage of the all areas in the gold storage facility, hence increasing the reliability and safety of the premise. For the achievement of best image resolutions, the design chose camera based on their sensor elements and their lens differently depending on their locations or level of performance expected. Further, the design recommended for the digital cameras to be serviced and maintained regularly to facilitate and maintain their effectiveness (Harwood E., 2008). Camera 1 (gold building processing area) The camera will be positioned at a height of 3.5m to maximize coverage of activities in the room. Dome of 3600 and colored camera was selected because it was positioned at the epicenter. An image sensor of 1/2inch was used (Ratcliffe, J., 2006). Camera 15 (Gold building office) A coupled charged camera with image sensor of 1/3inch was selected in the gold building office. The digital camera will monitor all the operational activities within the room and identify illegal activities. Camera 18(Gold storage room) The gold storage room requires digital camera with high capacity due to the high level of security needed. The digital camera of fixed 10mm focal length will be used and mounted 3.5m height. The IR-motion detector will also be used to facilitate detection of any movement in the room (Kamien, D. G., 2006). Camera 16 and 17 (in the corners of workshop building) Two cameras with wide lenses will be used to monitor the room. These cameras will have an image sensor of 1/3inch and mounted 3.5m high. Camera 14 (workshop office) A colour camera with image sensor of 1/3inch will be used. The lens of 4mm focal length will be selected and camera mounted 3.4m high. Cameras 17,18,19 and 20 (on the fence) The four cameras will be installed at a height of 4.0m at every corner. Outdoor cameras with image sensor of 1/2inch will be used. Camera 4 and 5 (open space between the workshop and gold building) The design selected two outdoor colour cameras with external PTZ, image sensors of 1/2inch, and installed 4.0m high. Camera 13 (fence door) The outdoor colour of 1/4inch was selected with the focal length of 7mm. Camera 2 (reception) A colour camera with image sensor of 1/3inch will be installed 3.0m Camera 1 (control room) An indoor colour camera with image sensor of 1/3inch and 3mm focal length will be installed at 3.0m high. Camera 16 (office area) A colour camera of 1/2inch image sensor will be installed 3.0m high to effectively monitor and recognise all people entering the office (Verity, B., 2003). Camera 7 (car parking) An outdoor colour digital camera with 1/3inch image sensor and focal length of fixed 4mm will be installed 4.0m high. Camera 9 (auto sliding gate) An outdoor colour digital camera of 1/4inch image sensor and focal length of 7mm will be installed 3.0m high at the auto sliding gate. Camera 6 (main entry) An outdoor colour camera with image sensor of 1/3inch and focal length of 4mm will be used. Alert functions, Lighting, monitors, cabling, and lines The design has incorporated the alert functions in the systems, which are facilitated by the internet and technology to deliver signals to security personnel and management members. According to Cumming N. (1998), Lighting plays the most important role in the system of CCTV, a factor that was given more consideration during the design (43). The cameras that are able to adjust effectively depending on the amount of illumination available were suitable for this design. These digital cameras will facilitate monitoring, identification, and intruders detection both at night and during the day. On the other hand, the design considered cameras that are able to adjust to artificial lighting because they suit different environment. In addition, the alert functions together with the alarm system and the networking technology to facilitate communication in case of emergency or alert (Fischer, Robert J; Halibozek, Edward P; & Walters, David C., 2013). Therefore, the digital cameras are able to function effectively with artificial lighting system, low illumination. However, more lighting system has been designed to provide enough illumination, which is required to produce clear and clean images. Standards Australia AS 4806.2 (2006) claims that during the starlight, moonlight, or complete dark condition, the more advanced or digital camera requires artificial lighting of about 11 lux. Therefore, the lighting system was integrated effectively to ensure effective capturing of images during the recording. Damjanovski V. (2005) indicates that well-designed lines facilitate digital video recording and production of clear images in the surveillance CCTV system that can be identified by the security personnel (76). Cooper cables were used in cabling work due to its suitable properties that facilitate effective communication and the fact that the signal of CCTV system is broadband. Finally, the LCD monitors were selected to facilitate the monitoring of 19 cameras in the gold storage facility. Conclusion Digital cameras have been designed effectively, selected and will be installed in strategic position excellently depending on the level of risks. The advanced technologies together with suitable lighting were designed to enhance the performance of both outdoor and indoor cameras. The designed CCTV system for the gold storage facility is a high technology system integrating internet and programmable systems to facilitate monitoring, recognition, and identification of intruders and staff operation activities. Moreover, the system integrates the new technology, monitors, cabling, lighting, and cameras for it to achieve its purpose.
