MPLS Network Project for the Waljat College Faculties - Case Study Example

The Waljat College of Applied Sciences began with a low student population and a simple network that comprised of a leased-line internet connection and a wireless LAN. This adequately provided access to network resources to the students and staff’s WiFi-enabled devices such as laptops, desktop computers, and so on. However, both the student body and the staff have grown tremendously, a factor that has put a strain on the original network so much that it has become too slow and therefore ineffective. The college intends to overhaul the entire college network and replace it with the Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network technology, and especially in inter-connectivity between the enlarged college faculties. This project will examine the existing system and provide a new and workable solution for the design and implementation of the MPLS system.

The problems experienced by the current Waljat College of Applied Sciences (WCAS) network have necessitated the implementation of a new MPLS network system. This project will describe the entire process for the development of the Waljat college MPLS network which will include the analysis, design, implementation, and testing for the big faculties of the College.

The MPLS network will cover the Business Faculty of the college and the Engineering faculty by using the MPLS system. The essence of this new network is to avail of the many benefits of the MPLS network which will be discussed later in detail in this report. These benefits include improved workflow, faster operation, improved resource sharing, and improvements to the speed and operation of the system so that the data transfer, resource sharing, and other things will connect easily between the faculties.

This shall improve the infrastructure of the whole network in the college. Background The history of Waljat College of Applied Sciences (WCAS) can be traced to the year 2001. The college was commissioned and initiated by the president of Oman, H.E. Dr. Omar Bin Abdul Muniem Al Zawawi.
