The On-Demand process centers on Innovation with a cutting edge – that is flexible to the environment that its customers demand. As compared to the physical products that it sold before, the drive was toward generating sales that were measured in volume. With the new On-Demand process, the focus is not only products but services which is very attuned to the needs of the market. As IBM CEO Sam Palmisano puts it

….an on-demand organization has its business processes integrated end-to-end across the company and with key partners, suppliers and customers so that it can respond with speed to any customer demand, opportunity, or threat. ( qt. from Brunelli,2004). This implies not only actual selling or procuring but real partnerships that tackle the issues on technology that has to be dealt with.

  1. The era of selling goods is bygone. Now, it is marketing services that satisfy the clients and that means putting a lot of personal touch in a very hard industry and that is technology. Competitors could not agree more since they too are aimed at CRM or Customer Relationship Management which is the key to business outsourcing.  BM looks at services as a package that is why they made the purchase of the consulting division of PricewaterhouseCoopers to guide them in sailing to services that come with technology such as health care and insurance.. Because of this vision, IBM is leading and can beat the competition well.
