Assessment of going to college for a computer science degree and how it prepares one for that career Introduction Computer science can be defined as the systematic study of different algorithm methods for transforming and representing scientific information, including their design, implementation, theory, efficiency and application. I had huge interest in computer applications and programming when I started to gain knowledge about the computers and its different accessories as well as application. It is true that demand for computer science study is significantly increasing among the students in this world as the application of computer science in the global corporate world is increasing at a rapid pace. It is true that several organizations used to implement advanced computer applications and programming in the business operation processes to increase overall efficiency. However, this essay will determine the significance of receiving computer science degree for the future career of a student. Discussion It has been mentioned earlier that I went to my college to obtain a bachelor computer science degree due to my growing interest in the development and application process of different computer programming. It is true that global business environment is becoming highly competitive. Therefore, several leading organizations are implementing advanced computer science programming in different business operation functions in order to gain potential competitive advantages in this competitive business operations. According to Dennis Ritchie, “C is quirky, flawed, and an enormous success.” (Goodreads 1, 2013) Several leading organizations in different industries are developing technical department within the organization in order to increase the efficiency of the business operation process. This growing demand in the corporate world also influenced me to receive a degree in computer science. It is important for a student to get admitted in a good college that can offer quality education to the students as the college is the major foundation of future professional success. My growing interest in this sector helped me to score good marks in my entrance exams. However, I have got the chance to get admission in an A+ ranked college. It was my good performance, my interest towards this course and my good luck that I have managed to get admission in the bachelor of computer science course in a good and reputed college in which I was guaranteed good and quality education. From the starting days, I used to attend each and every class as I have started to enjoy my college life. It is true that these are several subjects beside the core computer science subjects in my first year of course curriculum. However, I had strong desire to move forward to the second year as early as possible due to my immense knack in this computer science course and subject. This strong desire and enthusiasm helped me to score good marks in my first year in the college. During the course curriculum of the first year the academic department of my college has arranged two valuable industry visits for the students. I still remember that I have enjoyed the industry visits in the both software development and logistics management organizations. According to Donald Ervin Knuth, “The best programs are written so that computing machines can perform them quickly and so that human beings can understand them clearly. A programmer is ideally an essayist who works with traditional aesthetic and literary forms as well as mathematical concepts, to communicate the way that an algorithm works and to convince a reader that the results will be correct.” (Goodreads 2, 2013)I have learned from the interaction with the executives of the software development companies that there are several advanced and easiest ways to develop software by using computer programs. On the other hand, in the visit to the logistics management organization I have learned that how technological advancement and implementation of modern technological tools or applications can increase the efficiency of entire logistics management process (Elleithy, 2007). Installation of ICT software, PDA service and advanced navigation process can help the organization to increase efficiency in overall supply chain network. The organization always tries to increase the competency of technological department within the organization as it is helping the organization to increase its business profit. However, I have scored good marks in the first year and promoted in the second year. There were several important subjects during the course curriculum, such as Micro Processor, Database Management System, Data Structure and UNIX. It is true that these subjects are highly useful for a computer science and information technology student. It is important for a student to attend each and every class throughout the semesters as it seriously helps the students in their future career. Software development, processing and implementation have become highly important for several multinational organizations in different industries. From retail organizations to banks, adoption and implementation of advanced technological processes have become highly essential. It is true that demand for high quality differentiated product s in low price level has significantly increased among the customers around the globe due to globalization and technological advancements. In addition to this, several leading organizations are trying to increase the efficiency of the business operation process by implementing advanced technological tools and applications in the business functions. Application of technological processes and tools can help the organizations in several ways. First of all, it helps to reduce the business operation cost, lead time of a particular work and stress of the employees. Therefore, the organizations are hiring people in several departments who have some kind of technological knowledge as the business functioning has become highly automotive in this present era of modernization. Therefore, it was important for me to attend each and every class during the entire course curriculum. It is highly important for a student in the computer science and information technology course to gain both practical and theoretical knowledge. Several leading organizations used to hire an employee or recruit an applicant based on his or her past industry experience and knowledge about the subject matters (Hamming, 2003). It is important for a student to attend each and every lab periods as it helps to increase the practical knowledge about the subject matters. I have scored good marks throughout my entire course curriculum. It helped me a lot in my professional career. Recently I am working in a software development and processing organization. However, it is true that I have got several job opportunities like web developer, game analyst and many more. But, my immense knack towards computer programming and software development influenced me to do job in the core field of computer science and information technology. There are two types of organizations within the software industry. One who develops software and other who source the software to re-process it to several business clients based on the demand and needs of target customers or business clients. It is true that I have faced several challenges during my training period. But, my achieved theoretical knowledge helped me what to do to resolve the issues and challenges. Microsoft, Apple and IBM can be considered as the leading organizations within the global computer tech industry. It is true that Bill gates and Steve Jobs are quite successful entrepreneurs. These individuals achieved huge success through their intense knowledge in these areas (Lawanto, 2008). My academic skills helped me to understand the things and processes that have been developed and applied by the industry leaders. It is true that computer-tech job market is highly competitive as well as saturated. In addition to this, recent financial crisis and economic recession affected the global business environment as the purchasing power of people has been affected due to this global economic slowdown. However, the recession has also affected the performance and growth of the computer tech industry. The job market is also saturated due to increase in unemployment rate in several developed and developing economies. Several organizations are trying hard to find and select effective and skilled employees. On the other hand, high employee turnover rate has become one of the major challenges for the job seekers. Therefore, it is real challenge for the job seekers to avail strong knowledge, skills, competencies and appropriate qualification background to get a dream job. However, recently I am working in a domestic software development firm. I have to develop software for the banking organizations by applying computer programs. I am enjoying my job and workplace. In addition to this, my knack towards this field and effective educational background helped me to justify my job role. However, I am trying to gather two years of industry experience and get settled in one of the leading multinational organizations. It will fulfill my dream and I will be successful to achieve my developed goal. Conclusion It is clear from above discussion that I had a strong interest towards the computer programming and applications from my child hood. This interest continued to grow along with my age when I experienced several unique innovations of computer accessories, tools, software and applications. It is true that computer-tech industry has become highly competitive. In addition to this, demand for advanced software applications is significantly increasing among the customers and business clients around the globe. Therefore, I have decided to grow in this field in my professional career. I have joined a reputed and good college, and have started taking the classes quite seriously. It is my inner knack that has grown my interest towards the classes. Recently, I have completed my studies and started my career with a domestic software development company. I am trying to achieve a successful and valuable industry experience of two years and shift to one of the leading multinational software development organization in order to meet my developed career goals.
