Assignment: Holiday Website By Project Proposal Aim: The aim of the project is to design a prototype website that promotes Bangladesh as a destination for individuals seeking an affordable holiday with family, friends, colleagues or partners. Objectives: The main objectives of the prototype website are as follows: 1. The website would list the attractions of Bangladesh for the interested tourist visitors. 2. It shall highlight any special deals or discounts for the travelling and residence. 3. It will also provide information regarding any partner agencies that provides aid in the ticketing and arrangement process. 4. The site would be interactive such that the visitors would be able to post their reviews, rate and share their recommendations onto the site or see videos. The sharing would be public. 5. The visitor would also be able to leave a private inquiry message or suggestion to the website administration. 6. The website would be hosted onto a public server. 7. The website would provide these various functionalities through use of client-side (JavaScript) and server-side (php) scripts. CSS would be used for styling the web pages. MySql would be used for storing the reviews and uploaded images. The Site Map The sitemap for the website is shown below. The detail of each page is given below. Home: This page would load when the URL is entered for the site. The page would comprise of the following features: Description of Bangladesh as a holiday destination. A clock (JavaScript based) that displays the standard time of Bangladesh. The clock can be shown or hidden through buttons (JavaScript based). An automatic slide show (JavaScript based) that displays a few pictures of Bangladesh. A short documentary video on Bangladesh. A navigation pane to access all other pages of the website. Places: This page would highlight the diversity of places that can be visited on a holiday trip to Bangladesh. The page would include: A list of the notable places of Bangladesh that can be visited for recreation purposes. Each place would have a small picture next to it. Furthermore, places in each category would be shown or hidden through a button (JavaScript based). A section that displays all the pictures of places recommended by the visitors and stored on the server (php, mySql). Each picture would have a caption. The name of the visitor and the date the picture was uploaded on. A form to upload the picture onto the website (php, mySql). The form would take as input the name, email, local image path and the caption for the image from the visitor. A navigation pane to access all other pages of the site. Deals: This page would highlight the special offers/deals that sets apart the proposed website from the alternative options in the travelling business. The page would contain: A listing of the types of holidays provided i.e. formal or informal, any special discounts to customers, an estimate of the price range for the entire holiday package. Relevant pictures related to the family/couple accommodation, hotels for staying/meeting, etc. A section to display the reviews of the visitors regarding their experience with the website company (php, mySql). The review would display the name, comment, rating (from 0 to 10) and the time of post. An average rating out of 10 and the number of people that rated. A form to submit and store a review (php, mySql). The visitors would provide their name, email, website (optional), comment and rating (optional) for the deals and overall experience with the website company. It will be ensured that valid information is submitted (JavaScript validation). A navigation pane to access all other pages of the site. Partners: This page would display a list of associated travel and tour companies of Bangladesh. The page would contain: Detail of each associated company i.e. name, phone, fax, address and website. Pictures related to the travelling and technical tour requirements e.g. transport, hotels, cottages, etc. A navigation pane to access all other pages of the site. Contact Us: This page would be used to mail the website company regarding any information related to the information on the site, booking a plan or knowing any tour related details. The page would comprise of A form to submit a message to the site email (php based). Visitors would be required to provide their names, emails, phone and a message. The form would be validated to ensure the information submitted is in the correct format (JavaScript based). Once the message is sent, a new page opens that displays a “thank you” note. A navigation pane to ensure that all other pages are accessible. Project Evaluation The prototype website was evaluated by checking the links and the embedded functionality on each page. The evaluation of the five pages of the site is shown below. Home Page The home page (index.html) loaded fine on entering the website URL i.e. bangladeshtour.hostzi.com. The JavaScript clock and the show/hide script worked fine. The clock displayed when the button to “Show Bangladesh Standard Time” was clicked. The clock stopped showing when the button to “Hide Bangladesh Standard Time” was clicked. Show Button Clicked Hide Button Clicked The time updated on the screen with every passing second. The slideshow automatically changed pictures every second. The video loaded and played flawlessly. Places Page The page loads correctly as shown in Figure below. Only alphabets are accepted for Name. Only properly formatted emails are accepted. Only allowed length captions are accepted. Php based image upload works correctly. The image shows on the page. Uploading Image Image Uploaded The detail is added to database. The image is uploaded to directory (..images/uploaded.) on server. Deals Page The page loads correctly as shown in Figure below. JavaScript form validation works correctly. Mandatory fields cannot be left blank. Only alphabets are accepted for names. Only properly formatted emails are accepted. Only reasonable length comments are acceptable. Php reviews are stored and displayed correctly. The reviews are stored in database correctly. The reviews are displayed correctly. The average rating is estimated correctly. Partners Page The page loaded perfectly as shown in the Figure below. All local navigation links worked correctly. All external website links (partner company’s website links) opened in new windows. All images loaded correctly. Contact Page The page loaded correctly as shown in Figure below. The JavaScript form validation worked correctly. No blank field was accepted. Only alphabets were accepted for Name. Only numeric was accepted for Phone. Only properly formatted email was accepted. Only Proper length message is accepted. Only valid message is sent. The message is received by the website admin. Unread Message Message Read Conclusion The prototype website has achieved all the objectives listed in the project proposal. The website promotes Bangladesh as a perfect destination for holidays. Client-side JavaScript was used to display clock, display a slideshow of images, show/hide objects and validate forms. Server-side scripting language, php, was used to insert/retrieve the reviews and images shared by the visitors and for sending email to the website administrator. Sql was used to store the reviews and images posted on the site. The prototype was hosted on the webserver. The scripts were tested against a wide range of input and were found to perform correctly. All pages of the site follow the W3C standard. Future Advancements Presently, the pictures and reviews posted by the visitor are displayed as is. The level of interactivity can be further improved by allowing the visitors to rate or comment on the posted images and reviews.
