Running Head: IT IT [Institute’s IT Difference between IPv4 and IPv6 Internet Protocol (IP) is the group of technological regulations that describes the procedure and manner of communication among the computers connected in network. Presently, the two versions of internet protocol exist in networking. First version is what they networking personnel call Internet Protocol 4 or IPv4, and the second version is Internet Protocol 6 or IPv6. Internet Protocol 4 or IPv4 was the first and foremost version of IP (Beijnum, 3, 2005). With times, its use has become widespread across the world and it describes the major part of dealings and traffic related to Internet. According to an approximation, there exist about four billion IP addresses identified by using IPv4. The fact that most of the internet communication uses this protocol provided room for introduction of another version of internet protocol as the internet protocol version 4 was not going to last long with considerable load attached to it. The Internet Protocol version 6 or IPv6 thus came into existence. This version provides the latest numbering system that renders increased ranges of number of addresses that can be used by using this version. Of course, the version is an extended for of internet protocol version 4 that includes other characteristics as well. The most important difference between IPv6 and IPv4 is the fact that IPv6 allows more address space. The addresses used in this version are greater in length constructing a wider range of address space. The addresses used in internet communication these days are increasing at an exponential rate with the tremendous advancement of technology and its effects across the world. The IPv6 prevents the fear of getting finished with the address space for a longer period than IPv4 (Beijnum, 3, 2005). The other significant difference is the fact that the length of headers in fundamental internet protocol version 4 is 20 bytes, however the length of headers used in the internet protocol version 6 is 40 octets. “The header length in IPv4 shows the total length of the packet; however, usage of option field increases the length of header in this version. In case of other version, IPv6 uses the extension field, which is different in operation from the option field” (Shoniregun, 93, 2003). The other substantial point of difference is the fact the operation of field of fragmentation in IPv6 is different as that of TPv4. Unlike the IPv4, the operation uses the source node in order to form the packet instead of immediate routers. In order to obviate fragmentation that results in reduced cost, the IPv6 uses MTU discovery mechanism (Shoniregun, 93, 2003). The process of options and padding involves all options and every router at intermediate position must assure their presence and procedure them when found in IPv4. This results in degrading functioning in sending IPv4 packets of data (Beijnum, 3, 2005). However, in IPv6, the extension header checks and processes these options. This saves the time of each of the intermediate routers to check the options individually and process them at positive results. This prevents the performance degradation in sending of the data packets, improves speed of processing and the speed of communication. Effect of Internet on Business The origin of internet has significantly affected the manner in which world used to do the business. Internet has revolutionized the world into a global village, the business users around the world are in connection by this tremendous platform known as internet. This platform not only provides the communication medium in every nook and corner of the world but it also render different services and information related to every walk and aspect of life (Silverstein, 17, 2001). The business personnel or the consumers just search on the internet and find the best of services and information they require. The origin and utilization of internet has a deep impression on the manner in which different business individuals, firms, and organizations from different countries connect to each other across the globe (Freund & Weinhold, 3, 2000). This communication provides different modes for the business personnel, these modes includes emails, instant messaging, voice over IP, video calling etc. The business individuals utilize these modes according to their own feasibility. Use of internet has given rise to the concept of international market and international trade. In todays world, the national and physical boundaries hold no significance, and the trade is open to every person in the world. The conceptualization of physical limitations, sales personnel, or distribution medium exists no more. Internet has provided its users to utilize the services not only on the computers but also on mobiles and other hand held devices as well. The easy access and availability of internet and electronic communication across the globe has developed greater opportunities for small and large businesses, and firms that offer and render hardware, software, consultancy services, sales and support for particular hardware or brands, and other services and supports. This has resulted in increased advantages and huge benefits to the business and firms around the world as the internet has given boost to the marketing aspects of different business. The companies enjoy these exceptional marketing advantages paying the fraction of costs. The most important aspect of internet with respect to business is the introduction of e-business. E-business refers to the business practices and activities controlled, monitored, functioned, and spread through the internet. The introduction of e-business has made the dream of participation of any person belonging to any part of the world in the business of global village come true. It has provided various means of collection, search, and exchange of information related to business and its marketing practices. It has revolutionized the way the world used to business and modifies the conventional modes of trade and business around the world. It not only improves business in terms of sales and profits however, internet also puts substantial impact on the reputation of business by providing increased opportunities and support in terms of customer care, support, and relationship (Doole & Lowe, 424, 2008). Customer and client relationships are very significant in improving the base of any business. The internet provides means to devise delivery of specific services related to information and quotations in a digital manner and provides opportunities of trading in imaginary global market.
