Chapter Summary The of the first chapter is “Computer Technology: Your Need To Know” and in this chapter the author states that in order to develop information systems an individual requires know how of technicalities of hardware of the computer as well as technicalities of networking and software (Burd 1). Furthermore the chapter states that amount of knowledge and the kind of abilities that an individual require varies from discipline to discipline. One of the reasons due to which an individual may require technical knowledge is that the individual need to identify issues and trends that may occur in future. It is essential for an individual to keep an eye open for future trends because investments in hardware and software are quite expensive and are made while keeping in mind the future needs of the organization. The chapter even states that individuals can work in the field of information system as software developers as well as hardware managers. Furthermore the chapter focuses on the importance of acquiring up-to-date technical knowledge. The author states that in order to be informed as well as develop abilities to work with new software and hardware a professional belonging to the field of information system needs to obtain continuous education. The professional can equip himself with this knowledge with the assistance of self-study and the study material can be obtained from the internet and various journal articles that are based on everyday research. The chapter has provided details regarding different study materials such as websites managed and owned by vendors but the chapter provides a warning that there are chances of information being biased.
