Introduction Background This technology proposal is aimed at supporting Shiv LLC’s mission, goals and priorities with efficient and responsive technology solutions. In mirror of the fast changing technology setting and growing mission and business requirements, this proposal is visionary, forward-looking, and innovative. This technology proposal is strongly founded on practical projects that shall be executed in the future, but the proposal is also challenging and aspirational. The timeframe is a reflection of Shiv LLC’s needs to stay updated with the constantly-changing technology scene and to respond rapidly to the evolving imperatives of business. The key components of this proposal include the objectives, guiding principles, methodology of implementation, a technology strategic direction, goals, objectives, and a high level schedule to direct each step in the direction of the vision. Tasks will be updated and constantly monitored to ensure progress and accountability during implementation. Technology investments will be regulated appropriately to make certain that they are on course toward the achievement of Shiv LLC’S strategic vision and goals. Needs Statement Shiv LLC is a manufacturer and distributor of solar panels for the consumer market. Presently, the company is operational in three cities: Los Angeles, Dallas, and Houston. Shiv LLC intends to expand their operations rapidly due to an escalating demand for solar panels. i. The company’s main staff will operate from Dallas and Houston offices. ii. Data security is priority since patent and trademarks are at stake. iii. Los Angeles sales personnel shall require secure remote access to Houston office. iv. The WAN connectivity is in place and ample bandwidth is available. v. The Windows Server 2012 operating system should be used for all aspects of the solution. This project shall fulfill the following requirements for Shiv LLC’s current and new offices: i. An active directory. ii. FSMO Roles placement iii. AD backup and recovery plan iv. Group Policy v. DNS vi. Secure File Services vii. Access to Remote Services viii. Proposed TECHNICAL APPROACH A devoted “cloud computing” setting shall enable Shiv LLC to merge networking and processing services in a virtual environment. Such environment shall convey a high degree of availability, business continuity, and redundancy, while simultaneously enabling roughly all information to be controlled and availed both centrally and across networks. Through this network: i. Shiv LLC shall be able to consolidate the company’s global technology infrastructure and linked services and make it accessible to other branches operating Los Angeles, Dallas, and Houston. ii. A single unclassified Technology platform shall be developed to meet the demands of both local and overseas offices in support of business operations. iii. The network shall be a single network to offer unclassified technology services to employees stationed in the three cities under CIO authority. iv. Data, information and applications shall be accessible via the cloud network; and consequently the company shall reduce its permanent electronic and data processing servers overseas, thereby decreasing environmental impact and operational cost. The network shall be in place as an inter-branch platform. v. Shiv LLC employees will have access to a wide range of fixed and mobile end-user devices for accessing all information systems and technology resources, both unclassified and classified. vi. The work setting shall include an evolving collection of shared tools to connect with internal and external partners. vii. Employees shall be able to attend to tasks from their home, while travelling, or while in meetings with stakeholders. All resources they have at their desks shall be accessible to them from any part of the globe, subject to stringent security requirements and processing limitations of where they are situated and what device they are carrying. This technology proposal shall offer a well centralized and standardized technology infrastructure and timely delivery of technology services. This methodology will lower the intricacy of technological operations, encourage a standardized advance to decrease environmental and resource costs, and guarantee foreseeable service delivery across the company’s offices in the three cities. Of great significance, this approach will enable agencies to leverage against emerging security threats. Requirements Shiv LLC requires: i. Connectivity to data servers , application, and information across its offices within the three cities. ii. Access to the data servers, application and information from all satellite offices. iii. A highly secure network to protect its data. Architecture Design Implementation Design The Network Solution First, the proprietary network devices shall be eliminated and substituted with a universal network schema incorporating a verified firewall with dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) capabilities. Antivirus software shall be installed on all PCs and the body linked to the three offices using multimode fiber. This will enable access to data servers, applications and information across the cities on cloud storage. To enable Shiv LLC to connect to data servers, applications and information, the network is designed using Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology and applying the best practices in network design that will ensure maximum security of the systems. To implement the VPN, secure, high performance internet connections shall be established in Los Angeles, Dallas, and Houston. A reliable antivirus and firewall shall be installed in all the cities in accordance to the list of best practices. A new internet connection is not were necessary since one is already in place. Upon completion of setting up the satellite sites properly, the VPN will be implemented, enabling all users to connect to the system whenever, with minimal lag time or latency.
