Being a professional speaker, he could charge $20,000-$50,000 for 1 hour, and $12.000-$15.000 a day consulting with CEO. He is one of the tops 25 consultants in the world. At last Friday seminar, he emphasized that Informational Technology is extremely important in today’s business, he also advised to use IT with the real world, and revealed the negative sides of IT. Today, IT has become one of the crucial elements in the society. Dr Schroth explained that every single aspect of human’s life now is related with technology. Health, office, transportation, hospitality, lodging, foods, and other aspects will be organized better if corporations apply IT in managing business activities. For example, top oil company Shell spends $8 billion for technology budget. They understand that a better system of technology will assist their business in more effective ways. So they don’t have any hesitation to invest a big amount of money in technology because it’s a primary need for them. In addition, the groceries industry also makes big investments in technology; it happens because the technology helps to track their products location for shipping from one place to another. That is why technology is very important today. Since technology is one of the important elements in today’s world, small changes in IT could make big differences in how the companies behave, and can transform business procedures in the companies. It is because when the new technology comes out usually they update a new system. This requires a new technique, learning process, and procedures to operate the new technology in right order. So, the new system will assist the workers better. Technology makes society keep updated with the new changes. The fact that people try to keep updated brings negative effects to the society. The propaganda of the typical businessman at website changes the way people behave. People know the trend, the appearances, styles, and working. People are more likely to be like a robot in future because all of them have the same behaviors. Furthermore, social networking brings a bias, while firms try to hire employees. They try to seek their candidate by seeking up the information online. However, the information posted online may be inaccurate. Thus some of the firms like IBM and Google are restricted of using data from website while deciding to hire their future employees. At the end of the speech Dr. Schroth discussed positive and negative aspects of IT. He advised to use IT in order to become a success businessman. He said that school is the way to theoretical knowledge as well as IT. We need to combine our social skills and communication abilities to attract customers. For example, a technology company like Apple provides computer services for company A. One of the Apple representatives should arrange a time to have a meeting with the CEO of Company A like having a dinner, or playing golf. It is because by balancing the portion of technology, and human’s aspects it can add more credibility to Apple Company. Learning from the seminar: Dr. Schroth seminar has taught me how crucial the technologies are today. Understanding recent technologies is extremely important for overcoming business obstacles. However, the most important things that I learned from his lecture are to think out of the box, and see the business world from different perspectives. Dr. Schroth encourages us not to emphasize the theoretical matter in solving life’s problem. Two most important lessons that I learned from Friday’s seminar I realize that technology is very important for our life, and we need to balance our life skills. The Friday’s seminar has opened my eyes on technology. All of aspects in today’s world are connected with technology. After that session I went to my room and did some reflection with my life. I can’t believe that almost every single activity in my life is assisted by technology. For example I brush my teeth with the electric toothbrush, washing my clothes with washing machines, and doing all of my school works with laptop. It means that the majority of my daily activities are related with technology. So after attending Dr. Schroth’s seminar, I realized how important the technology is in our life. Now not just in my life, but in every business firms people are using technologies for having an efficient production line, and management. So in order to succeed in today’s world I need to keep updated with the recent technologies. But besides technologies, we need other life skills. There are a lot of life skills that required in pursuing success. Being good in one aspect is not enough to accomplish our life’s goal. From this lecture I learned that we couldn’t be too theoretical while tackling issues, or relying all of our life, and business with technology. We also need great communication skills for approaching people to get support in our projects. For example, a big firm like Windows has a department that concentrate on lobbying their big customers. These people are usually concentrate on arranging a dinner, and do other activities not connected with business so that the customers may feel highly appreciated. Combining great technology services, and social skills business firms can grow large. I can’t argue that technology is crucial in today’s world. But Dr. Schroth has taught me that technology and education are not the only ways to success as education and technology are sometimes too theoretical. Theory can’t solve life problems. So, it is better to combine technology, and our social skills in building firms. If these aspects are balanced, then the company can grow strong.
