After a few days, a team was set up that consisted of stakeholders drawn from the Human resource department, Accounts and billing department, and the Information Technology department. The team was tasked with the responsibility of spearheading the process of selection, purchase, and eventual installation of the software to the clinic’s computer systems (Ball 2000).Criteria Used in the Selection ProcessAfter conducting random interviews among random members of the staff, the team that was entrusted with the responsibility of purchasing the software managed to create criteria that the software would have to satisfy.

Some of the elements of these criteria include:Cost Analysis: The team had created an estimated budget for the software and they used these criteria to weed out some of the potential software that happened to be too costly to purchase and install (Ball 2000).Utility / Quality Assessment: The team used this criterion to eliminate the software that other clinics had tried installing into their systems but had been forced to change over from them as a result of substandard qualities, or a general failure to meet the set expectations on the part of the software (Buchsel & Whedon 1995).

Maintenance and Upgradeability: This was also an important factor as it enabled them to select software that had adequate and ready customer support. The team wanted to select software that had experts that were ready to help sort out any issues that might potentially occur during the software’s usage (Ball 2000).East of Use: The team had to select software that was somewhat not very difficult to master and learn how to use. This was majorly due to the understandable fact that in-house training on the use of the software had to be conducted before the installation of the software.

The team did not want to consume too many man-hours on training the various members of staff on how they could be able to effectively use the software (Buchsel & Whedon 1995).Appropriateness of the Software Criteria used and Future Recommendations on How to make the Criteria Used More Effective.According to my opinion, the software selection processes that are used in my organization are very appropriate as proven by both the effectiveness and suitability of all the software that the organization currently uses.

However, there are a few changes that can be made to make the selection process more effective. These changes include, the company can make efforts to try and establish the compatibility of the organization’s hardware systems with the proposed software before purchasing the software. This will prevent the possibility of purchasing software that will not work once installed in the organization’s hardware and software systems. The clinic can also try and obtain information from technology and software magazines on the latest software technology in the market.

This will help keep the clinic up to date with the current market technology and software (Buchsel & Whedon 1995).Difference Between the Selection and Purchase of Software in Clinical Health Organizations and in an Academic Setting.CostsThe budget cost of software that has been bought to be used in an academic setting is normally lower than the budget set for the purchase of software in clinical health organizations. This is mainly as a result of more functionality and instant system support that is available on the part of the software that has been brought for use in a clinical setting (Buchsel & Whedon 1995).

SecuritySoftware that has been purchased for use in a clinical setting is found to be relatively more secure as compared to software that has been purchased for use in an academic setting. This can be attributed to the fact that software in a clinical setting often carries more sensitive information as compared to that used in an academic setting (Buchsel & Whedon 1995).Software LicensingOrganizational software is relatively more expensive to license as compared to academic setting software.

Organizational software licensing affords it more functionality as compared to academic software. The licensing terms for academic software allow for the software to be installed on more computers as compared to organizational software (TrueSEARCH.info 2012).
