Violent Video Games Introduction Video games portraying violent content have become exceedingly popular especially among youths. Research studies show that their effects could be positively associated with the violent video game and frequency of play. Effects of Violent Video GamesMeta-analytic research reviews have revealed a number of negative, cognitive, behavioral and affective outcomes of exposure to violent video games in both physical and developmental aspects. A decrease in academic achievement could be associated with increases in time spent on violent video games.

Repeated violent video game playing leads to more aggressive behaviors. They also become less responsive to real life violence due to decreased levels in heart rate reactivity (Anderson and Bushman 490-491).Anderson and Bushman found that repeated exposure makes individuals feel less sympathy for violence victims and less affective reaction towards violence. They are less likely to perceive aggressive events or severe injuries. Moreover, individuals display an increasing normative belief about violence and decreasing negative attitudes towards violence (494-495).

In conclusion, violent video games are the central contributors in promoting problems of violence in societies.
