Explain what kind of Internet access you have at home, school, local library, or in the office. Discuss the availability of DSL, broadband, and fiber-optic access in your area and the pros and cons of each type of Internet accessModern times are driven by digital communications and .We have broadband connection in our surroundings and it’s driven by D.S.L (digital subscriber line). The last mile connections are fiber optic, while the rest is copper wire.D.S.L: D.S.L performance is better than other wireless means because of reliable and considerably less fluctuating data rates and connectivity .

The disadvantages D.S.L line can have are they are wired connections, though the wireless routers can solve this problem but the range of wireless routers is limited to a few hundred meters. Optic fiber: The advantages of fiber optic access are reliable transmission and even in rough weathers it can ensure transmission, however the drawback with fiber optic communication is the availability of infrastructure and is relatively expensiveOther broadband means:Other sources include Wi-fi from a remote spot, Wimax, advantages to both are ,they provide fast and on the go connectivity, drawbacks can be ,the air medium since transmission is in the form of waves, distortions are likely to be part of system 2 Wimax is showing great promise for convenient, fast connectivity.

Discuss the technology in terms of its potential positive and negative impacts to society.Wimax is a 4th Generation Telecommunication Technology and is acronym for Worldwide Interoperability Microwave Access. It offers number of features and in a way has revolutionized the means of connectivity. Operating in Giga Hertz frequency band, it provides higher data rates, more secure transmissions, less disruptions, it provides data rates as high as 10 Mbps or above ,there are few drawbacks attached to use of Wimax , since all the transmission is based on air waves( unlike D.S.L where optic fiber is used) rough weather can disrupt transmission and can bring about fluctuations .

Customer Premises Equipment ( C.P.E) the hardware equipment that is necessary for Wimax connection is slightly expensive .When the source is at a considerable distance from the C.P.E ,loss in quality can be experienced. 3. Explain whether you think professional organizations are embracing Wimax technologies or are reluctant to implement it on a large scale. What is the reasoning for your perspective and what do you feel to be the future outlook on this technology?Large number of organizations and enterprises are fast embracing Wimax as medium for communication and performing daily activities .

There are number of reasons to it. The first and foremost is the fast speed and reliability provided by Wimax, many organizations need video conferencing tools and for that high speeds are required. Wimax ensures that in first place. However considerable amount of investment is needed for this purpose and companies must embrace themselves for large initial investment. Wimax is an infrastructure based mechanism and communication setup, and with infrastructure comes reliability, security, and long lasting transmission setup .

Hence Wimax is a durable project that implemented once, lasts long . Despite the many challenges faced by Wimax, it has become a strong force in the field of broadband internet communication.Describe how you felt about the UNIX operating system at the beginning of the class versus now.In the beginning handling UNIX o.s looked very difficult, but with time it became the most favorite operating system. UNIX has many features over other operating systems and is far more users friendly once hands get accustomed to the entire environment .

Unix provides both the options of Graphic User Interface (G.U.I) and Command Line Interface (C.L.I).I found out that UNIX was more stable than other operating systems, less vulnerable to viruses, improved built in security, more secure and file sharing procedures were easier and more compact .Softwares up gradation was far better and improved compared to Microsoft’s updates.Bibliography:Starr, T.
