The Characteristics and Benefits of a Great System Programmer Introduction The aim of this paper is to get an overview of the effectiveness of a leader in the field of computer information systems. Leadership refers to the concepts of management, control, and guidance of people. Rampur (2010) states, “In the corporate world, leadership is undoubtedly the most important action that has to be considered if you want to get the work done collectively”. Effective leaders use different strategies to ensure success in the achievement of desired goals and objectives.

The key issues, which will be analyzed in this paper, include personal and business characteristics that a leader in the field of computer information systems must possess in order to be successful. The role model of leadership will be Steve Jobs who was the former CEO of Apple Inc.Computer Information System I selected this field of study because of my interest in designing computer systems. I want to solve business problems using efficient computer information systems and that is only possible if I get a complete understanding of all issues related to this field of study.

The expected year of completion of my graduation is 2015.Steve Jobs, a Great Leader I have selected Steve Jobs for the study because he has proved to be a great leader in the field of computer information systems. He is the person whose core ideas and leadership skills brought great success to Apple Inc. Do what you love to do, start small and think big, and entrepreneurial approach were such rules of Steve Jobs which made him extremely successful as the CEO of Apple Inc. (Hollands, 2009). Steve Jobs’ Style of Leadership A good leader is one who works for the continuous improvement in the system of the organization while keeping in view the concerns and benefits of the employees.

Some of the main features of an effective leader include belief in the abilities, ability to energize and motivate the employees, high level of self-confidence, ability to create and sell the vision, and ability to transform the organization’s culture in order to ensure high levels of productivity and profitability. “A good leader will both inspire confidence and give a strong example of what we should aim for” (Pettinger, 2007). Steve Jobs had a number of effective leadership traits. Some of the positive leadership traits of Steve Jobs included clear vision, motivation, humility, thinking big, and entrepreneurial approach towards business (Hollands, 2009).

Personal leadership Qualities Some of my personal strengths include perfectionism, responsible, applicable, ability to learn from mistakes, and visualization. Roles of critical thinking, leadership, and accountability are very critical in the success of a personal plan. Critical thinking makes a person able to take correct decisions. Leadership skills make a person able to lead and manage a large group of people. Accountability makes a person socially responsive and responsible. My only weakness is lack of effective communication skills.

I think I can improve my communication skills by interacting with people belonging to different backgrounds. Conclusion Summing it up, leadership is the ability to control and motivate people for a positive cause. Effective leaders possess such leadership skills, which ensure achievement of desired goals and objectives in a proper manner. Leaders in the field of computer information system need to be fully organized and aware of all issues related to the field in order to prove their ability to design efficient information systems.
