The current church website is www.syracusevineyard.com I will design a civic website for our local church. The main audiences for my civic website that I am focusing on are interested newcomers who are seeking more information about the church so that they determine if the church is a place they would like to try out and visit to see if it is where they want to worship. Home: The homepage of website will provide general information such as ‘Times & Locations’, what is current event that is on-going or will happen in near future, email link for any information, and ‘Map Directions’ (Google Map). About Us: The about us webpage will provide information specific to church and all the staff information with their email link. I’Am New (What To Expect): This section will provide information for interested newcomers so that they will know what they will get when they visit church. My Kids: It is important aspect to think about interested newcomers children. This section will provide information related to kids programs such as Pre-School, Elementary, and Grade Classes, and family lodges. Contact Us: It is important to provide a separate section for website users so that they can easily contact. This webpage will provide contact form to website users. In addition, phone number and fax will be available in this page so that interested newcomers get answer for their queries instantly. Assignment: Website Design Document (Module 04) This paper will describe the design of civic (the Syracuse Vineyard Church) website. A sample page design is shown in figure 1. Below that, a light red strip is used keeping in mind navigation links or any news headlines that will be displayed there later on. The WebPages will be designed considering that the resolution of the user will be at least 1024 by 768 pixels (standard) or higher. In general, the web site will have four sections: Header: On top of webpage for display of logo and church name. Navigation Links: On left side of the webpage for navigation from one page to another. Body (Content): On right of the webpage for displaying content. Footer: On bottom of the page for copyright information, church location, etc. For navigation, website user can use navigation links provided on the left of the website. Using these navigation links, the user can move from any page to any page. The link for the home page will be included in all pages so that user can return to the home page from any page. Background color (table) selected is dark red that will be selected (displayed) through graphic image. In addition, whole pages (where content will be not displayed) background color selected is Sandy Brown. The text colors are yellow (body text) and salt gray (footer, etc). The visual design elements selected complement each other. Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) will be used for consistent look across all WebPages. The main content will come from daily to daily-church activities (news, events, etc). The other content such as contact us, what to expect, kids program, and contact us that will probably not change frequently will be made after discussion with staff members of the Syracuse Vineyard Church. The reading level of the content will be so that every one can understand it. The font style selected for body content is ‘11px, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif, color: yellow:’ that is supported by all the browsers (Google Chrome, Internet explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and Safari) and can be viewed easily by any one. Photographs will be used for displaying images for current events or events happened in past. In addition, image of the Staff will be also displayed. Part 3: Hosting, publicity, and maintenance The web site will be hosted using any web hosting service (internet hosting service) that will allow website accessible via the World Wide Web (www). There are many free web-hosting services available on internet. However, they only provide free web hosting for few months. Therefore, I will buy web-hosting space from any web hosting service that is reliable for my website. There are many ways for publicize of website such as advertising, Google, Yahoo, or MSN search services. However, since the website is meant for local audience, therefore, publicizing it on internet is not a useful solution as it will be a costly affair. For publicizing website, I will distribute pamphlet to visiting member in church and ask them to visit website and also let other people in their area know about the website. In addition, I will also use keywords (search engine optimization) such as “Syracuse NY Church”, Syracuse New York Church”, or “Lakeside Rd Syracuse Church” so that the website will be displayed using search engine if any interested user is looking for it using such keywords. The website will be maintained by using FTP access service. Web hosting companies allows user to upload and maintain website pages, image, etc remotely by providing the FTP access service to the website hosted.
