I have Bachelor Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Currently, I am working at Holy Makkah Municipality under general Department of Information Technology. I have been working here since July 2004 and have worked under different designations. I have further acted as Head of the Development of Data within the department and often I have been engaged in supervising and participating in the technical and administrative oversights of numerous IT projects. Moreover, at several occasions, I have acted as assistant project manager of data center project. I am also a member of the supervisory body on contract for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) projects. At the same time, I have corrected digital information, satellite images and print maps directed by Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) Products and Autodesk Products. Over the years, I have engaged in sharpening my management skills and as I served as Assistant President of the Centre region during the pilgrimage season where I and other team members effectively managed pilgrimage 3 day event with more than 70,000 attendants. During the year 2002-04, I had worked with Zuhair Fayez Partnership as a Planning and Architecture Engineer and successfully updated the structural plan for the city of Makkah as a team using GIS. Before working with Zuhair Fayez Partnership, I had worked with Daleel TEQ Company for a year duration ranging from 2001-02 under the same department of GIS in Jeddah. While I was working with Daleel TEQ Company, I had conducted field surveys and data entry as well as I was involved in data processing using Arc View 3x (GIS) for producing municipal data related with few recognized cities such as Mecca, Jeddah, Taif and Riyadh. In addition to this, I have worked with a team in the NAVTEQ Company to complete a field survey using the GPS devices of Jeddah city. Additionally, my native language is Arabic, however I have proficiency in speaking English language as well. All these professional experiences have helped me to acquire vital knowledge of information science and further fascinated my interest to gain an in-depth knowledge related with it. Question 2 Everyday there has been a new advancement in information technology. At the same time, the rapidly growing size of the internet and its users has made our lives digital. Hence, the significance of information management has increased by a great extent and has further created requirements for present and the potential organizations to have radical access to information scales. Often, it has been viewed that the tools to efficiently organize information are missing or they are under-developed. Contextually, I am interested in ascertaining knowledge of both the aspects including how the information is gathered and how information providers deliver it to potential users. I am interested in taking technology out of its common place and apply these information management tools in other settings. As I have stated earlier, the information technologies are rapidly being developed and within the minimum span of time, these information technologies are getting obsolete (Saracevic, “Information Science”). In such circumstances, there has always been the issues’ relating to security and privacy of information from technical and legal point of view. It is worth mentioning that with rapid transformation of society into digitalized and information oriented system, I want to contribute my knowledge towards improving the use of information management and enhance the utility of information tools for the betterment of our lives and society as a whole. Consequently, Master of Science in Information Management (MSIM) program shall provide me an opportunity to understand the importance of business management and information skills and further allow me to sharpen my professional skills and knowledge that I have acquired through all these years of hard work. Furthermore, with the knowledge acquired through the valuable curriculum in your university combined together with my professional skills, I intend to accomplish my long-term and short-term goals of attaining the ideas of information management in-depth and structure my career successfully. Question 3 I firmly believe that life is a learning experience and being able to recognize one’s own strengths and weaknesses can truly help us to become a better person in anything that we intend to do whether it is positive attitude that contribute towards our success or negative in certain areas that need to be sharpen up. Knowing oneself provides us with an opportunity to recognize and overcome the weaknesses that we hold in ourselves. One of my significant strengths that I have recognized has been my ability to be a well structured individual. Patience is my greatest strength as an individual and prior to performing any activity I have the habit to properly analyze and frame the ways according to the situation. I am a dedicated and hardworking professional individual and I always make sure that any activity that has been assigned to me is performed with utmost perfection and best to my ability. Over the years, I have been engaged in several workshops and conferences that specialize in urban planning and geographic information system such as GIS together with my professional skills had helped me to further consolidate my strengths and remove my weaknesses. My interests such as swimming, travel, camping and surfing internet all have contributed to enhancing my personal strengths. However, my GPA which has been less than 3:00 indeed is disappointing for me. Apart from my academic courses, I was also closely involved in a number of other extracurricular activities and my failure to understand the intensity of exam and provide significant priority to my academic activities resulted in my poor GPA. I have also studied 2 level of mathematics i.e. general mathematics along with calculus and I have also proficient knowledge of level 2 of Physics. I have also participated in Visual Basic programming language course which would facilitate me in the MSIM program. I will also take classes in programming language in fundamental programming or in Visual Basic Programming language or in Java programming language that would help me during the program. There are multiple avenues to research, study and develop in information science. Contextually, I hope to acquire skills and knowledge while pursuing master’s program in information science and further implement this in future for the betterment of the society.
