Reflection Paper A review of my abilities, skills, knowledge, creativity and innovativeness now convinces me that I havemade significant progress in my understanding and ability to apply business information system in real life and solve related problems or challenges. This progress is attributed to the learning activities within the AC731 course and the appropriate teaching pedagogy which facilitated acquisition of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in business information systems. Juxtaposition between the learning objectives and expected outcomes versus my current abilities also proves that I am much better informed now than I was at the beginning of the course. The appropriate introduction that was given at the beginning of the course allowed me to have a good and concrete background and understanding of the big picture of business information systems and their application within business processes. My current proficiency and mastery of the various concepts that are stipulated within the objectives of the course are therefore as a result of the effective course introduction. The introduction of the course was followed into deeper study of Relational Database Models for the Logical and conceptual modeling of business processes within which I attained my current adequate comprehension of how business processes can be modeled to ensure that they are both efficient and aligned to the mission, vision and goals of an organization. At the end of the course, I am confident that I am able to design and model an effective business process that would be applied to realize goals of a large enterprise. The assessments and peer review of my performance motivated the achievement of the desired course outcomes. My skills in modeling of business processes in the application of information systems advanced with more study of the course material and exercises which comprised both individual and group work. My first essay acted as a guiding framework within which I understood my goals which allowed me to employ the guidance of the instructor and group members as well as effective learning approached to achieve skills required for advanced modeling. This is the reason why I have a desirable understanding of all concepts in advanced business modeling and ability to apply them within a work environment to instill improvements in work processes. The ability that I gained to present these concepts within the blackboard reveals that the course had allowed me to acquire and gain from both understanding knowledge and skills of articulating them through a presentation. This means that I have acquired relevant business communication skills of concepts as required for the human resource within the contemporary competitive business environment. I boldly mention that through this course I have also gained managerial skills especially in planning for disasters and application of various strategies and measures to recover from various disasters that could befall a business information system. I greatly appreciate the role of security policy for securing information systems from possible risk issues that which may result to discontinuity of operations and resultant losses to an organization. In addition the querying of systems for acquisition of information for decision making is an aspect that I am specifically good at through the leaning processes of the course. This includes financial information which is applicable by managers in the making decisions on the strategies that are to be employed in improving business performance. My proficiency in Access 2010 is one of the most notable achievements that I would point out that the course has allowed me to achieve. Group activities and assignments in Acquisition and Revenue Cycles allowed me to focus and work hard in the use of Access 2010 for statistical analysis of business data including financial information which is an inevitable application within modern business organizations. I am now knowledgeable and experienced in the use of Access 2010 in business processes. This is important to be for two main reasons. Firstly, the learning activities with Access 2010 make me a competitive human resource that has knowledge, skills and experience in the use of the latest package of business processing of data. Secondly, I have convincing understanding of how businesses can enhance their competitive advantage through improving efficiency and effectiveness. For example statistical software applications and packages allow companies to be both efficient and in line with the needs of their customers. I consider myself knowledgeable and confident enough in Access 2010 to become a consultant that would recommend the use of this package to facilitate business processes. The goals that I set within the first essay I was able to achieve them. I realized this through my performance during group activities especially the enormous contribution that I presented for the achievement of group work. Additionally, I was able to articulate the solutions to the activities and exercises that we were presented in group work effectively which allowed the all of us the members of the group to overcome the learning milestones and become successful in meeting the expected outcomes. In the group work, I improved my team work skills significantly. This is demonstrated by the fact that I was able to play my team roles as required and even received compliments from my team members. I was also influential in the team activities which reveal that I gained leadership skills which involved the use of business information systems within organizations to communicate, control and influence subordinates. The goals which I presented within my first essay in regard to performance in examinations were achieved as disclosed by the fact that I performed exemplarily in all assessments within the course. This illustrates that the course activities and learning processes are well designed to allow learners to overcome difficulties and grow their skills which is proven by the assessment results. It is therefore notable that the feedback which I received was more than expected by justifiable considering that my learning processes were characterized by a lot of commitment and dedication to meeting goals and objectives of the course. My performance in group presentations allowed me to assess my own progress. My thoughts after all activities and learning processes within this course especially group presentations convinced me that I understand effectively concepts in business information systems and how they would be applied to meet the objectives of an organization. This is because what is articulated is often as a result of a deeper level of understanding of what is being presented to a group. My ability to clarify the concerns of group members during the group presentation further helps me to be content with my performance during the course. I am in this regard expecting that the good grade I will achieve in the course will not only reflect my theoretical understanding of concepts in business information systems, but also my ability to apply these concepts in solving problems in a real life business environment. In light of the above reflection on my own progress, I will conclude by saying that the learning process within the AC731 course was a rewarding one. This is attributed to the deep understanding and skill that I have achieved through the course. This makes me confident that I am suitably prepared to apply these skills within a work environment. The specific skills that I acquired during the course include the design of effective business information systems with efficient models that will make business organizations competitive. In addition, I developed my group or team work skills in addition to leadership skills such as articulation and presentation of concepts and ideas to a group with a view of influencing a better business strategy. More notably, I gained special skills and knowledge on the application of business application packages for transactions such as Access 2010. Read More
