Internetworking Equipment There is a range of internetworking equipment that is used in the networkingsystem of businesses or offices. Among them include routers, switches and bridges (Gokhale, 2004). Offices use any of their preferred equipments to suit the needs of their networking purposes. As an intern in a highly competitive IT firm, I got chance to use routers as an internetworking equipment while being able to evaluate its advantages and shortcomings. Routers Routers are most appropriate in situations where there is a vast networking area.

This is because it can accommodate many computing equipments being used at the same time. A basic advantage of using routers is that they can filter traffic, avoiding the entry of wrong and unwanted Wide Area Networking (WAN) traffic. Another good quality of routers is that they can be used as bridges in the internetworking area (Trout, 2007). This means that they share the advantages of bridges; that is low latency quality and the ability to plug and play. This means that the operations do not fail often.

Another good attribute of routers is that they have redundancy that is they can access different IP addresses at the same time. This is a quality that is suitable for multiple access point users such as offices. The use of routers also drags along a few limitations, making their use unfavorable to their users. One major hurdle in using routers is that they have a bit of complexity in their use. Many inexperienced face the trouble of functioning with them. Additionally, the choice of routers is dependent on the quality and speed.

The wrong choice of routers would submit the user to the torture of low speed. VoIP The VoIP capability has created a bridge into the internet provision industry as well as the general communication industry (Booth, 2010). Besides being totally compatible with the provision of effective voice communication, the protocol also comes in handy to provide multimedia services to the user. Its functions and characteristics bear a number of advantages and disadvantages. Advantages The major advantage that VoIP has is the ability to be very cost effective and affordable to the user, in comparison to other providers of these services such as PBX.

The phone devices that offer VoIP services have been made lighter by the enabling to use Wi-Fi networks. This way, users can have conversations easily within the city. This has seen corporations switch to VoIP services in their normal business activities. VoIP has the ability to put through many different phone calls over a single connection. Another of its advantages is that it secures the user, by providing encryption and authentication of users to the on provision to the customer. It already contains this capability.

Limitations The VoIP service does not ensure that there is quality service in using it. It is known to have quite a number of adverse effects especially when it comes to the reliability on power at all times. However, there are plans to overcome this limitation (Prabhakar, Rastogi & Thotton, 2005) Using VoIP in times of an emergency is sometimes made very difficult. When one registers in a different area that has different emergency call, like from Britain to America, there arises the problem of not being provided with the current region’s emergency number.

And when one makes one, it is very hard to trace the exact location of the distressed (Cerf & Kahn, 1974). Impact of Global Intellectual Property Law on the Telecommunication Industry The international trademark registration allocates the global intellectual property law which in turn provides the service of trademark; ensuring that the rights of owners of intellectual property are protected. The intellectual property laws carry with them many policies that provide the framework for telecommunication, and they also give a guideline for their implementation, scrutinizing, appraisal and functioning of such.

However, the laws pertaining to copyrights relevantly in the telecommunication industry have got some advantage to them and disadvantages. In developed countries, there has been a fight to eradicate piracy, which eventually leads to the benefit of the developer of the certain material. These laws are protected in developed countries leading to a minimal rate of infringement of the laws of developed countries. However, in developing countries there is no effort being put to protecting these rights (Solove &Schwartz, 2009).

Evidently, there is a bad reputation clinched around the telecommunication industry of the developing countries, since they do not seem to protect these laws. Countries should emulate the steps followed by developed countries and enhance the protection of international intellectual property laws. It will help in the enhancement of the telecommunication industry as a whole, promoting the country’s general well-being. References Prabhakar, G.; Rastogi, R.,& Thotton, M (2005).
