Are my sentences readable and easily accessible? Is the language being used in my presentation in the vernacular, or are there a lot of unusual or odd colloquialisms or slang that might be difficult to understand? These questions help myself as a writer because I need to get more clarity when it comes to my writing. Asking tough questions can clarify a piece. Beyond that, many times a piece requires good editing to improve it. 4. Comma placement may completely change the meaning of a sentence.

What can you do to ensure your comma use helps you communicate clearly? In order to ensure that comma placement helps me to communicate clearly, it is important to ensure that one knows where the natural pauses or stops in language occur. Without that ability to distinguish where natural pauses in language are, it might be difficult to impossible to figure out where to place commas. This is because usage of apostrophes—like ellipses—are difficult to properly place within sentences and can cause a lot of unnecessary confusion when a writer is putting together a piece that one wants to be effective. This makes sense on paper and in real life. 5. What components are needed to develop a clear and concise thesis statement? In order to develop a clear and concise thesis statement, there are a few key elements involved. To be able to write clearly, one must be able to have a good idea in mind which is specific, and an idea which captures the imagination of one’s audience.

It’s also, however, important to be concise when creating one’s thesis statement. When one says that one should ‘be concise,’ this often involves—more often than not—being brief. As it has been said by the Bard, brevity is the soul of wit. This is not any less true when it comes to writing a winning thesis statement. Ideally, three main points should be covered if one can. More about the thesis statement is forthcoming in a subsequent question—but basically, the thesis statement should not be only focused but short enough to capture the audience’s
