For one to get a job, it is important for one to know where to search from. Additionally, it is important to know how to write a resume and how to go about interview questions and presentation. This essay will represent the aforementioned in detail. Searching for a job position Internet This is the modern way for job seekers to search for various positions. The internet enables quick search for advertised positions. There are various websites which employers use to advertise various positions. The job seekers can search for a vacancy by using the location e.g. specifying the location as either national, region, international, capital city or state. Additionally, the job seekers can use categories such as industry, advertiser or occupation to search for a particular position in the internet (Dwyer, 2011). The job seekers should note that most positions advertised in the numerous newspapers are also present in the website searches. Additionally, job searching via the internet is essential due to the fact that most job search website offer numerous career resources. For example information on sample resume, company and employment news, skills and training, career networking and job seeking techniques (Miller, & Hindi, 2012, p. 23). Newspapers Newspapers have been used by job seekers for a long period of time. In the newspapers, there is a section called position vacant where employers advertise various positions. Certain newspapers such as Metropolitan, national and local newspapers have certain days for posting jobs for instance Saturdays, Wednesdays and Mondays and therefore, the job seekers should take note of the same. Consequently, the newspapers advertise professional positions an aspect that is advantageous to professionals. There are also specific months in which government organizations post job openings and job seekers should take note of the same (Miller, & Hindi, 2012, p. 23). Job application Evaluating personal ability In job application it is importance to ascertain whether the skills of the job seeker matches those of the position requirements. The evaluation of the applicants’ ability emerges from a number of sources which include: the resume/CV, the job interview, holding discussions with the former employers, having discussions with the peers and finally through the job application (Miller, & Hindi, 2012, p. 23). Resumes The resume is summary of the education, skills and work experience. A good resume is an elaboration of how the job seekers abilities and skills match up with the job requirements. A resume should be about one to two pages long. The resume should have personal details which include full names, telephone numbers and email address (Miller, & Hindi, 2012, p. 23). It should also have details on education and training which should have information on history on education and training starting with the most recent ones. But ensure that only the relevant training and education to the position being applied to are included (Dwyer, 2011). Employment history/experience Include the most recent work experience and others in a chronological order. Additionally, list the name of the employer, the job titles, the dates and finally the tasks, responsibilities and achievements. It is essential to include all that is relevant to the job. Interests and activities This section is optional in the resume and it entails ones interests and hobbies. The mentioned information provides the employer with additional information on the applicant. The employer’s is in a position to know areas in which the applicant has gained experience like commitment and teamwork which might be relevant to the position (Miller, & Hindi, 2012, p. 23). Referees It is important to include the list of people who know about your good work skills. However it is important to get their permission and let them know in advance so that they can be prepared. It is important to list their names, position, company names as well as contact details (Dwyer, 2011). Checklist for the resume It is important to proof read for spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and typos before submitting it. Additionally, tailor the resume in a manner that all mentioned indicates that you are suited for the job. On the presentation, the resume should be well laid out for easy readability. Lastly include details e.g. instances of the achievements and skills utilization (Miller, & Hindi, 2012, p. 23). Job interview Question preparation Answering questions accurately gives the candidate an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and expertise in the job offered. The opening question in an interview is usually tell us about yourself. Practice to take a minute or two to answer the question. Cover four key topics in this area, education, work history, early years and career experience (Dwyer, 2011). Additionally gather information about the organization as you are likely to be asked what you know about it. Consequently, research well so as to learn the needs of the company so as to answer the question reasons for working for that particular company. It is important to practice on how to articulate you skills and abilities so to point out how you will contribute to the company (Miller, & Hindi, 2012, p. 26). Practice for the interview presentation At times candidates are required to give presentation as part of the interview. It gives the candidates an excellent opportunity to show to the potential employers the capabilities apart from the formal interview as well as the answer procedure. In preparing for the presentation it important to know whom you are going to speak to as it will influence the content of the presentation. Consequently, it is essential to have the right structure. Prepare a clear message that have three important sections; introduction, development and conclusion (Dwyer, 2011). Additionally, practice for clear delivery by having a punchy opening and very memorable ending. It is important to learn how to speak slowly with purpose and without rambling. Ensure eye contact during the presentation this can be practiced beforehand (Miller, & Hindi, 2012, p. 23). You can test this with practicing it with friends or family members. Visual aids Include visual aids in your presentation such as the use of power points. Consider using flashy animations as they show expertise. However, ensure that the presentations do not distract the audience. This can be achieved by address the audience before introducing visual aids (Miller, & Hindi, 2012, p. 23).
