It is not a choice to make, but it naturally exists. There is a variety of instant emotional related responses to the surrounding in which beings live. Feelings are a fundamental aspect of the life of a person. They contribute to the decision-making ability of individuals. Emotions play a significant role in the art of human interactions in places of work. They have a strong effect on the performance and success involving individuals and organizations. This essay will lay out my personal emotional strengths and weaknesses, personal stressors and the various emotional states that are related to my workplace. Also, the article will put out a development of awareness of my own emotional triggers (CARTER, 2009, PG 34). Furthermore, it will explain the utility of such knowledge to control a variety of emotional responses. Furthermore, the essay will describe model workplace mannerisms that demonstrate monitoring and management of emotions. Nonetheless, it will reveal how I utilize self-reflection and feedback got from other individuals to enhance the development of my emotional intelligence. 1. Identify your own Emotional Strengths and Weaknesses Emotional intelligence is the capability to possess an awareness of, have control and the expression of self-emotions. It also entails the ability to handle interpersonal relationships in a judicial and empathetic mannerism. It enhances the achievement of perfect performance in the related workplaces. It is essential and necessary that leaders and managers identify their personal emotional strengths and weaknesses. It will help them in effective self-regulation. Anger, frustration and other negative emotions lead to the lack of motivation among employees, and hence it leads to weak performance in the organization. Maintenance of positive attitude at places of work and also modeling favorable mannerisms ensures that one develops a positive emotional relation with other individuals in the workplace. Emotions are a form of messages that attention to a specific thing that is they are viewed as outward expressions and inwards beliefs. Emotions are either instant or unconscious and usually signal something is not right. They have both positive and negative impacts on the performance of an individual in the various areas of work (CARTER, 2009, PG 34). A variety of strong emotions like anxiety and fear impair the capacity of an individual to take part in thinking in a rational way. In cases where work colleagues are unhappy, they may experience diminished cognitive capabilities which reduce the ability of a person to concentrate adequately, implement plans and execute good decisions. With the assistance of emotional intelligence, I have been able to identify several emotional strengths and weaknesses that I possess. Some of the workplace emotions that I encounter are anger, anxiety, fear, entrust, elation, depression, confidence, joy, stress, pride, and nervousness. 2. Identify Personal Stressors and the Own Emotional States Related to the Workplace It is important to determine one's personal stressors and also emotional states that are about the place of work. Therefore, I do the same. It ensures that I care and protect my physical and emotional wellbeing and also that of my fellow work mates. A prolonged state of emotional stress is likely to lead to low commitment in the workplace. Whenever energy, motivation and commitment decrease, there may be withholding of resources and skills either in an intentional or unintentional manner. This makes an individual feel vulnerable. Also, one can feel to be in a state of risk related with personal hardship. It is, therefore, important to learn and adopt new manners of tolerating stress at the workplace. It is important as I can be able to improve my performance in my field of the specification at the workplace. Workplace stress is identified as the adverse reactions and the consequent responses which happen in cases when the demands of a task or a job do not form a perfect match with the respective resources, abilities or needs of the staff. There is usually some allowance on the expected level of stress that can occur in the workplace. However, unnecessary or exaggerated stress is capable of hindering an individual’s level of productivity and minimizes performance in one’s role. Stressors refer to events that occur in the place of work and are known to trigger or accelerate the stress response in a certain individual or organization. These stressors are prone to causing chemical, physical or mental responses that interfere with the internal body thus affect mental related purposes and functions. It is essential for an individual to identify such workplace stressors. It is because they can be detrimental to one’s health or the performance of someone. During the identification workplace stressors, I noticed that there were instances when I experienced the condition. One of the instances was when I had many tasks on my table, and they had to compete for a limited period. I realized I faced such a challenge due to my poor time management skills. Also, I had insufficient task schedules. To do away with the workplace stressor, I prepared sufficient work schedules and researched on ways of improving my time management skills. The other instance was when I faced the lack of clarity that had come about due to ambiguous job roles. In addition to that, I realized this had also been caused because of too many responsibilities. To do away with this, I had to sit down and make clear job roles and enact the art of division and specification of labor. 3. Develop Awareness of own Emotional Triggers and Use this knowledge to Control Emotional Responses There is a variety of emotions triggers that relate to an individual. It should be understood that it is not an event that causes one to have a feeling of anger (PETERSON, 20004, PG 43). It is the role of emotional trigger. In every possible event, a person has their own belief, views or feelings. These aspects lead to the art of emotional triggers influencing the mannerisms of an individual. At mu workplace, I realized that several emotional triggers dominate my life and have a negative impact on my performance of activities. They are fear, anger, guilt and instant gratification. In cases where I perform a task, and my boss does not appreciate my work, I get emotional triggers thus leading to more calamities. I have fear in cases where my boss blames me for a variety of mistakes or failure in the performance of some of my assigned roles and duties. When caught up in such a situation where emotion l triggers take the better part of one’s day it is better to come up with solutions. I came up with several ways of managing my emotions triggers to ensure that I achieve positive results and maintain a friendly environment with my workmates. The initial step is the acceptance of responsibility for my reactions. I accepted myself and decided to view myself as a powerful being Instead of seeing myself as a victim of vulnerability that is controlled by emotions. By identifying what triggers my feelings, I realize that I place myself in a better position and give myself a better chance to have a positive feeling of difference. This aspect will give me more clarity. The second step is the recognize of the possession of emotional triggers immediately I sense I have it. This will help me take control of my personal emotional triggers as I will be able to comprehend and manage them effectively. To adequately contain my emotional triggers I will identify the type of emotional triggers that I have and research on the different approaches to handling the emotional triggers as they are distinct in a way and hence need to be dealt using various methods that are most suitable and favorable. Secondly, I will spot my external stimuli by taking note of the different situations in which I portrayed awkward mannerisms (PETERSON, 20004, PG 43). It will assist me to know the cause. Also, I will identify the internal causes and accept that all individuals possess emotional triggers. On the art of managing my emotional triggers, I will monitor my way of doing things by keeping a journal so as to have a record of my thoughts. It will help me be aware and detailed about my behaviors. Also, I will challenge myself by putting myself in difficult situations and by being open and constructive. Furthermore, I will come up with several alternatives for dealing with the issues and choose the best and most suitable among all of them, and also I will identify my capacity so that I can move at a pace I can tolerate. Nonetheless, I will ensure I make enough time to relax as this will help me in managing my stress evils thus I will control my emotions in a better and advanced way. 4. Identify at least One Instance of modeling workplace Behavior that Demonstrates Management of Emotions as an Example for others to follow It is necessary for an individual to model workplace mannerism in a way that will show adequate and efficient management of emotions. Also, it should be in a way that acts as a guide to the others in the workplace. I analyzed several ways f doing this, and I came up with various means that are practical and essential. In cases where I am resolving conflicts, I will do it in a constructive manner that is healthy and is aimed at strengthening the various levels involving trust and confidence. It will apply to the team members. I will always strive to diffuse tension. Also, I will, remain focused by concentrating on the current situations and issues. I will do this by adoption and also by following the put in place organizational dispute resolution steps and processes (KISE, 2013, PG 78). Furthermore, I chose to respond with humor as humor is identified as a perfect stress reliever in the case when it is utilized in the right way. It will open good lines of effective communication and improve on the aspect of creative. Also, it will promote trust among individuals, and the workplace will be a fun environment. Nonetheless, I will always identify my personal stressors and recognize specific responses to tackling stress. I will also familiarize myself with various sensory cues that assist in realizing tension and will calm me. Furthermore, I will be aware of my emotions as they influence my way of thinking and carrying out activities. I will always put them into consideration. It is important to exercise self-management as it assists one in fostering a workplace surrounding that is dominated by trust and confidence. I will, therefore, consider practicing the art of self-management. Nonetheless, I will ensure I show empathy for my fellow work colleagues to enhance understanding of each other’s perspectives, specific needs, and emotional stress. By doing this, I will have created a working environment that has freedom of sharing ideas and Intel. 5. Identify three Actions You Will Take to Improve Your Emotional Intelligence by Self-Reflection or Feedback From others. Reflect On Emotional Intelligence Principles and Strategies to Justify your Proposed Actions. Identify at least One Instance of Modeling workplace Behavior that Demonstrates Management of Emotions as an Example for others to Follow Correction of identified mistakes by other individuals or through a self-reflection activity is usually the initial step of maintaining progress in improving on one’s mistakes. By understanding that negative emotions have a way of affecting the way things are carried out in a workplace environment I chose to take part in the institution of three actions that will help me improve m own emotional intelligent. These measures I have decided to take them after several feedbacks from my work mates and also a self-reflection on my emotional weaknesses and strengths. I will look into my social awareness. This skill will help me, interpreter, a large percentage of the nonverbal cues that are used by my fellow workmates. It will help me understand other people and the feelings they pose so as to enhance better relations with my workmates and hence lead to success (WHITE, 2012, PG 56). Also, there is the art of relationship management so as to make my links at my workplace be fruitful and productive. It will result in cooperation at the workplace and result in success in the activities I carry out. Self-awareness is the other aspect that I will improve on to ensure that do away with my emotional weaknesses that are the distraction to effective performance at my workplace. I will also practice connecting with my emotions so as to understand the influence emotions bring into my life. It is vital to control one’s emotions and not allow them to control you. Emotions should be handled with care, and much attention should be directed towards them. This will help an individual avoid calamities that are brought about by emotional stressors. Also, it will improve relations with persons at workplaces and also there will be effective carrying out of assigned roles and responsibilities (LESLIE, 2002, PG 112).
