Human resource practitioners must always strive to get the best quality of employees who are passionate and compatible with the organization (Cooper, Robertson and Tinline 16). In light of this understanding, this report is intended to propose a HR recruitment and selection plan for Total Oil Company in UAE which will include a strategy and execution outline. The report will also provide a background of Total Oil Company 2 Background of the report It should be noted that this is an original recruitment plan for Total Oil Company and not a modification of an existing recruitment plan by the company. Total Marketing Middle East is the fully owned subsidiary of Total group that is based in the UAE. Total group is one of the biggest oil companies in the world fully integrated from production to distribution to marketing of oil, gas and petroleum products. This subsidiary started its operations in 1990 and is now a market leader in manufacturing and distribution of automotive and industrial lubricants and greases, marine lubricants and specialty products. The company is well known for its Total & Elf brand of lubricants in Middles east and Asia. Every year total hires 10, 000 people on permanent contracts, 1,000 work study contracts and more than 3,500 on internships. The company has more than 97,000 employees from over 130 nationalities. Middle East just accounts for 1.3% of the employees with Europe topping with 59.9%. 50% of the new hires in 2012 were under 30 years and 1.5% of employees are people with disability. 70% of the workforce comprises of men [Tot13]. Total marketing Middle East’s vision is to be a committed contributor to society and to be a centre of expertise and excellence. Its mission is to provide the latest technology products and services to its customers [Tot132]. Total Marketing Middle East team of over 200 employees from over 20 nationalities can be guaranteed of highly motivating careers full of opportunities, in an organization with strong values in cultural diversity and environmental conservation, a wide professional offering of more than 500 disciplines and a technologically driven organization [Tot131]. 3 Human Resource Strategy Total is committed towards recruiting highly talented employees to fill its more than 10, 000 positions annually[Tot13]. The company also focuses on retaining its best employees and develops them further in an environment where the latest technology drives innovation and growth in the company. The recruitment strategy by Total Marketing Middle East should therefore focus on Total’s values of respecting cultural diversity and also committing to its vision of being a leading oil company in terms of technology and expertise. The strategy should also commit to society empowerment. This strategy requires Total Marketing Middle East to attract a wide pool of candidates to fill its position. The candidates should fulfill the requirements in terms of values and vision of the company. Total Marketing Middle East will therefore have to advertise through the local dailies and through the website to attract the best talent. Total already has a competent and experienced human resource function with a dedicated website to handle the strategy[Tot131]. These interviews shall be conducted by a dedicated and experienced team of human resource practitioners and employees of the company from the accounting department. 5.5 Choosing Top Candidates Personal interviews To choose the top three candidates for the job, the top finance officers and human resource head of the company shall be involved in personal interviews of at least five candidates. The candidates should posses most of the job specifications and the company top officers shall be looking for fitness of the candidates with the vision and values of the organization. Contacting references The references provided by the candidates will further help the top decision makers have an idea of the kind of persons the individuals are.
