The paper "Group Work as Part of the Recruitment Process" is a perfect example of an essay on human resources. Group work is a critical part of the recruitment process because it allows the employer to determine the candidates who are team players and have sound leadership styles that do not impose on the team members. It also gives the employer the opportunity to watch teamwork in practice and thus make an easy judgment about different participants in the group (West 10). The key issues in group exercise are listening and adding on other contributions.
The major drawback of a group exercise is when the team members are poor listeners and egocentric, it will be difficult to manage a group with aggressive persons. I was involved enough to the survival exercise because I was a keen listener, contributor of the necessary essentials to carry and a team player because my peers listened to me as I listened and added on their contributions. I also accepted their suggestions after a critical discussion and consideration of all factors involved in the survival exercise.
A face-to-face exercise will give an opportunity to judge the feelings of the members by their facial expression and thus comprehend their satisfaction or dissatisfaction. I will, therefore, approach a face-to-face discussion with confidence and ready to contribute, be corrected as well as practice good listening skills. My time in the University has prepared me well for group work because of a number of exercises, wide theoretical reading of what it constitutes to be a team player through contribution, listening and also accepting corrections.
The extra-curricular activities have also contributed largely to the practical approach of group working because of the interactions made with my peers. Both undergraduate and postgraduate readings and practice have enriched me with the right strategies to use while approaching a group discussion. Because of my sound theoretical approach of group work, I will engage myself in many activities that involve group working skills in order to foster my skills using real-world approaches. This will be critical in developing my teamwork skills in the future.
