Sales Manager: The position in which took my interest is the national sales manager for Geiger textiles. Geiger textiles is a company found in Atlanta, and it mainly deals with the production and supply of textile materials. Becoming a sales manager is one of my greatest desires, and when this position was advertised, I took the opportunity to apply it. It is important to denote that becoming a sales manager is not an easy task. Those who successful carry out their tasks as sales managers are able to find themselves at the top leadership positions of a company (Rustenburg and A.J, 26). That is the positions of the director, or chief executive director. Other advantages of becoming a sales manager involve good compensation hence leading to financial stability. However, it is important to denote that this compensation structure depends on the hard work of the sales manager under consideration. On this basis, an individual who holds the position does not have any limit on how far he can go, because all depends on his skills, knowledge and hard work. However, it is important to denote that majority of sales managers are not skilled or trained in sales management (National Textiles Sales Manager, 4). They earned their promotions because as sales officers, they did a good job promoting the products of the company. Geiger Textiles advertised a position of national textiles manager. Under this job, the company was interested in a person who has a degree in design, or in any field that is related to design. The company was also looking for a person who had a considerable level of experience. In terms of experience, the company needs an individual who has three years experience in sales and management, and a five years experience in the field of design, or working in a textile industry (National Textiles Sales Manager,6). The individual under consideration must have skills in organization, and problem solving. He must also have the capability of negotiating with customers, and collaborating with his or her fellow employees. The person under consideration must also be full of self-confidence, assertive, a self-starter, and have the capability of representing the organization in a professional manner. This individual must have the capability of working in a changing and fast paced environment. He must also have the capability of building and forming a long term relationship with partners and customers. This is mostly with senior members of the organization. The organization is looking for an individual who has some excellent, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills (National Textiles Sales Manager, 3). This person must be results oriented, willing to continuously learn, and has demonstrated some level of high performance standards. This person must be an individual, who has some good levels of integrity, and desires to follow business ethics. He must have some good understanding of various aspects of finance, and he must demonstrate some aspects of good business acumen. This person must be willing to travel extensively, and work even during the evenings. Finally, Geiger textiles requires a sales manager who has the ability and capability of using office automations, software’s, and tools, which are found in the various offices of Geiger textiles (National Textiles Sales Manager, 3). However, it is important to denote that there are some skills and characteristics established that sales managers need to have. One such characteristic is a degree or an MBA in sales management. An individual who possesses a degree in sales management must have some relevant years of experience, possibly five years. This is because it is a managerial position, and degree holders normally do not have the skill necessary to handle such a position without undergoing some levels of experience. An MBA holder must have some three years of experience conducting sales. This is because he or she cannot lead sales people when they do not have any levels of experience. This position also requires an individual to have some knowledge on finance and the principles of marketing. Having knowledge on finance will help the sales manager to be able to calculate the amount of sales made, and hence the profit or loss that the organization made. This skill will help the sales manager to identify whether his or her sales team is making some progress or not. Sales about marketing, and therefore a sales manager must have some sound knowledge on the principles of marketing (HenrySchein, 6). This is because he or she can apply these principles for purposes of selling the products of the organization. A sales manager must also have some sound knowledge on how to use office automation tools such as computers and the internet. This is because most organizations use these tools for purposes of transacting their businesses. A sales manager must also be result oriented, and have some focus ("AMAX, 7). If he or she is result oriented, then the targets that the sales manager sets for the organization will be achieved. There is a need of focus for a sales manager to achieve the set up targets/ goals of the organization under consideration ("AMAX, 3). From research, the best quality an individual needs to have in order to succeed in this profession is empathy, responsibility, focus, optimism and ego-drive. Under empathy, a sales manager must have the capability of identifying himself with customers. This will help him identify the various needs of customers; hence seek to satisfy those needs. Under responsibility, a good sales manager must be responsible for his staff, and the various decisions that he or she makes. This will make him or her earn some respect, and hence increases the morale of his employees. Under focus, the manager must strive to accomplish the goals that he or she has set aside. This is to the highest standard possible. Optimism denotes persistence, which is an essential skill required in this job. Ego drive on the other hand is persistence with the intention of winning (Rustenburg and A.J, 26). An additional trait for a successful sales manager is having knowledge on the products and the market under consideration. Based on these qualities of a successful sales manager, I believe I am the best suited candidate for the job. This is because I have some knowledge on the textiles industry, with my qualification in fashion merchandising. I am an individual who is focused, optimistic and ego driven. I am also knowledgeable on virtually all aspects of office automation and hence, this job is within my capability. On this basis, the requirement of a sales manager by Geiger textiles is realistic. This is because the advertisement covers virtually all the areas needed for an effective sales manager. That is focus, responsibility, optimism, empathy, and result oriented. Works Cited: "AMAX."
