“The Real-World Job” 1. Introduction Human Resource Management, shortened as HRM or HR, is the process of dealing with people in an organization in an appropriate and a methodical manner. HR includes the management of people from hiring to the pay scale, their management, performance, examination of their track record and making sure that everything is in its correct order (Management Study Guide, 2008). It usually consists of a group of people who are managing the valuable assets of the company, “Employees” being the most important one. The performance, learning, better understanding of the employees is actually a good way to enhance the company’s position. By spending some time with employees other than work hours it becomes easy for the manager to deal with the employee and get more out of him in terms of labor in the workplace (Price, 2011). To develop a better understanding of what actually happens in real world and real companies I contacted Mr. Mark Will who is working as HR manager. 2. It is very easy to deal with people but sometimes there are people who are very stubborn and they are not ready to listen. 10) What are the common problems you face in your everyday job? No. But sometimes yes as the details provided in resumes are not 100% real and it can be judged during the interviews. 17) How difficult is it to adjust new employees with a new environment, also are the old employees disturbed by recruitments? By giving proper orientation it is not difficult at all. 18) What is job security in HR? Having a good relationship with boss and doing all my duties perfectly ensure me about having a bright future. 19) Some employees do not work up to mark and they are your friends at workplace too, how do you maintain the balance between your duties and friendship? For such people HR is responsible to set targets for everyone in coordination with line managers. It is the Line Manager’s duty to monitor the performance and decide what to do with such employees. Personally I will not favor even if the employee is my close friend. 20) Is it possible for you to maintain good relations with people even after getting harsh on them for example sometimes maybe you would have to pass on opinion about firing someone and he is your friend as well? It is possible to have a good relation but for that both parties have to give space to each other in order to maintain understanding. 21) Do you have to get extra certifications to expand your role in the company? Certifications are good to enhance the knowledge and make the person cope up with the new trends in the market. 22) Is it difficult to manage job along with studies? No because there is a drive that you are working to stand out and learn more for the betterment of the company and your own self. 23) If you have to switch to another company then is it easy for you to do so? Yes. 3. Conclusion All the organizations have one common goal, to be bright and to gain success. Every company has an HR department. HR department and HR managers need to be smart to control employees’ performance. The most intelligent task is resource identification which is to hire the right person, at the right time for the right task and to invest in him in order to get long term services in return. The recruitment, selection and evaluation are carried out well through it, keeping tracks and communicating with a million people at a time is in fact a big and a great opportunity for the HR managers. They interact with more people than others in their organization. This makes their job creative and critical at the same moment. The real world interview made me understand that the study life and professional one are both different. We study the definitions and gather information about different topics but to interact with a real life person in the field is a whole new experience. Talking with professionals made me understand the complexities of the HR department in a much appropriate manner. 4. References Management Study Guide. 2008, Human Resource Management (HRM).
