Leadership Brief of the organizational setting Dalal Salem is the current head of employee performance management of the department of tourism and commerce marketing company. This company portrays a good example of an organization on its way to its deathbed. Dalal deals with the performance of employees in the company and holds a diploma in Information Technology. She has been working in the company for over 6 years, first as an officer, then Executive Director to the head of the department. During her tenure, she claims that, the major problems facing the company relate to allocation of jobs that have no relationship with their educational qualifications. In her instance, she claims that her promotion has nothing to do with her educational qualifications. Her line of work relates to contents of Information Technology, yet she does roles that relate to performance and hiring employees in the company. In order to keep the company on its toes, Dalal advocates for the division of labor and specialization in the company. Analysts argue that, the key towards successful business operations is the need to allow for division of labor and specialization among the employees. In this company, Dalal as the leader, advocates for division of labor so that, the employees of the company can have a considerable amount of workload. With this, she believes that the company will be headed in the right direction. Dalal complains of the heavy workload in her arms; at the end, she gets too exhausted with her job. She claims to organize everything in the office with very minimal assistance from the fellow members of staff. Her segment, at times operates without a budget; sometimes she is unable to handle all the pressures in the office. She claims not to be in a position to inform her boss about all the happenings in the business for fear of not being in a position to have time to handle all the jobs on her shoulders. The manager of the department has given Dalal the mandate to give orders to her employees in business without consultations. As a leader, Dalal believes that it is her responsibility to ensure that all employees are given an opportunity to work on what areas that they are experts. Leadership ability of your chosen person Dalal has the ability to lead this organization. She has been given the mandate to handle almost all business operations. This means that Dalal has the attributes of command, ability to organize and motivate employees towards achievement of goals of the organization. In terms of motivationher manager is her key of being motivated. It is noted that Dalal has had the majority number of nominations in programs such as “ hawafiz program”. In these programs, Dalal continues to enrich her skills on how to be the faultless distinctive employee. The management has been indicated to enroll her in training courses. After training, she transmits the learnt skills to the rest of the employees. Dalal recommends that more employees be recruited into the organization. From the above consultations; it is evident that the organization faces a great challenge in terms of employee recruitment and management of the existing. The fact that Dalal has been given the way forward to give orders in the company means that there is a dire need for recruitment of more people into the organization for all roles to run smoothly as expected. Dalal works on the basis of her own opinion regarding to what she feels need more priority than the other in the company. This fact means that Dalal has the ability to drive the company on her own ability to make decisions. Dalal also recommends that not only more employees are incorporated in the organization, but also qualified expertise. Dalal plays the role of supervisor, organizer, and implementer among many others that are difficult to implement as a single entity in the business. Gallos (p.45) argues that, this kind of operation may jeopardize the organization’s operations in a fatal way. An organization must have a wide range of personnel that take part in contribution of the organization’s ideas through consultations. In such a business, it is extremely difficult for employees to produce results. Majority of the employees have no one to look up to for the reason that, every person is too busy to perform their roles and meet deadlines. Another aspect that portrays Dalal’s ability to lead the organization is her capability to multitask. From a survey of the organization, it is evident that, the manager has no time for supervision of her employees, but is quick to ensure that the roles in the business are completed. On the other hand, Dalal is able to work effectively despite the work load. If the roles are completed in a quick manner so as, to meet the deadlines, then the business will in the long run be reduced to the drawing board, to set its goals and objectives right. It is almost undoubted that, the business is on the verge of collapsing. If all measures in the business are not put in a place in a strict way, or supervised constantly and consistently, then the department is bound to fail. Dalal is also a brilliant listener despite the fact that, she hardly has time to have rest while on duty. Her good communication abilities incorporate all employees into the system. In this context, it is justified to argue that she embraces the concepts of egalitarian form of leadership. She has a place for all ideas, complaints, complements that emanate within the organization, regarding performance of the employees. Predicaments in the organization The department of tourism and commerce marketing company does not fit into the leadership challenge. The structure of the organization does not conform to a complete business operation. According to Metcalf (p.31), the structure of the organization must be in such a way that, there is room for smooth flow of organizational activities. He continues to argue that, each institution must have an effectual structure that allows for reporting of activities in the organization. The organizational structure determines the success of the functioning of the chain of command, mandatory for all forms of businesses. The organizational structure also contributes to the systematic and orderly arrangement of work in the organization. In this context, the department has structural issues that do not allow for smooth flow of operations in the business. In terms of human resource management, recruitment, management, and provision of direction of the employees are poorly done by the department’s organization. The line of managers is seemingly too busy trying to clear the workload on their desks rather than dealing with what is seemingly most important in the business, that of ensuring that the employees are well supervised and motivated so as to acquire the best results foe the business. Hiring of employees is poorly done by the department as evidenced from Dalal’s workload. Performance organization and administration, institutional development, communication, as well as, training are poorly done in this department. Dalal is among the employees who feels, that she strains too much in her work, having to conduct roles that are completely out of her line of profession. Resolution for the unsolved problem In order to solve the problems in the company, Dalal advocates for keen interest by all the involved stakeholders in improving the working environment for all employees. In many instances, the organizational cultures and symbols are emphasized by the managers of the business (Gallos p.95). In the context of the department of tourism and commerce marketing company, the organization’s mission and symbols are not well outlined for the members of staff in the department. This is evident from the roles done by individuals not conforming to the expected of them as per their educational qualifications is concerned. Majority of the employees end up performing tasks not sure what is expected of them by their line of profession. The managers are too busy to find out who is doing what and at what levels the organizational mission is likely to be achieved. In terms of the human resource department, the management must undertake an initiative of ensuring that they recruit more workers to perform various roles especially the ones that other people are being force to do, and do not match their areas of the profession. Inclusion of more employees would relate a successful organization, in that the employees would have an easier time dealing with their work load as well as perform roles that they are most comfortable doing. The above issues are major indicators of the need for change in the organization. Metcalf (p.68) argues that departments must work towards ensuring that the organization has a well defined mission of existence. In this case, the organization will be in a better to organize its employees towards goal-oriented objectives. Just like businessmen have argued over the years, it is pointless to have a business that is not geared towards development growth of the owners as well as the employees. Conclusively, the department of tourism and commerce marketing company must embrace the salient features that are necessary for steering the organization towards the highest levels of achievement. It is the sole responsibility of management to ensure that the department of tourism and commerce marketing company improves on the current niches that are lagging the company behind in terms of goal and objective achievement, as well as growth of its employees.
