Job Analysis for Book Business Job Analysis is the method used to gather information regarding the responsibilities, duties, outcomes, skills and working profile of a specific job. A job description requires a number of information to be compiled while inviting applications and this is as a result of job analysis. Other outcomes related to job analysis for recruitment includes position posting, performance development, advertisements and performance management. The detailed process of job analysis includes review of job profile of existing employees, analyzing tasks, duties and responsibilities required to be performed by the new recruit, web research to refine existing responsibilities and add responsibilities from similar jobs, compilation of significant results and contributions required for the new position and sharing similar job profile with other stores (Job Analysis).

With respect to Alan’s book business, the job analysis requires the employee to assist the activities of the bookstore. Job description includes procurement, distributing, selling and merchandise. The job demands the employee to have initiative and judgment and includes regular written and verbal communication with vendors, purchases, students and faculty of colleges. The duties of the person would be to request information about bookstore requirements from student customers, faculty and regular customers.

The personnel should represent the bookstore to other sellers and publishers. The personnel should have the ability to purchase general books, text books and merchandise them which requires the person to expedite action and find solutions whenever necessary. The duty requires the personnel to be responsible for keeping record for money collected from sales and be responsible for receipt of books. The person should also establish and maintain a difficult system of records comprising inventory and historical programs.

The person should supervise subordinates or temporary employees and students at the book store. The job description also requires to perform all function related to a bookstore clerk and should have the capability to operate equipments in the office. The skills and knowledge of the personnel shall include specialized knowledge to evaluate and solve complicated problems. The job requires visual as well as mental effort which is concentrated and continuous to perform and plan work. The responsibility includes cost control and prevention of waste and damage.

The personnel is also required to extent awareness and care to avoid physical injuries, delegate part of the work to assistants or temporary employees and maintain confidentiality of sensitive data, manage disagreeable situations and maintain a good stand for internal and external relations (Job Description). Recruitment can be made from referrals, staffing agencies, newspaper, wanted sign boards, word of mouth, internet, college or universities, job fair, television, recruiters, corporate personnel, trade and technical school, website or trade publications.

These methods can be used to recruit because it provides a large pool of prospective employees (Methods of Recruitment). Management is the art and science of enabling personnel to be more efficient at workplace. A good management should plan, monitor, direct and organize the work of employees. To apply these tasks at work, the employer or organization should know the objective of the company, tool to implement plan, tools required in addition to existing ones and the method to achieve the objectives (Day One Management).

The selection process includes inviting applications that indicate qualifications and work experience of the applicant, receipt of applications and screening for requisite details. Based on the job description, the selection process may include written test, typing test, performance test or any other specialized tests. Tests are conducted to assess the capability of the person to perform the required job. Finally, results have to be communicated to the person in writing (The Recruitment and Selection Process).
