Download file to see previous pages The nine-month certificate program which I completed at Leadership Institute of South Puget Sound combined academic study on leadership with practical development of leadership skills. Numerous community service activities such as involvement in Employee Community Fund (ECF), being a Child haven volunteer, Christian Center volunteer and a Junior Achievement Consultant have exposed me to situations which made me apply many skills such counseling young people, and motivating them to achieve their full potential, seeking solutions with expansive thinking and application of flexibility and quick responsiveness. My involvement in Christian Center had specially sharpened my crisis management skills by participating in natural disaster management work. I will be able to utilize the highlighted skills in the LDE program to contribute to the learning experience.

The other most prominent training I have had in relation to leadership development is the certificate program at Dale Carnegie Institute. This program aims to assist employees in becoming stronger leaders, imperative of their position within the organization. Being able to add value through exhibiting essential leadership competencies such as proactive decision-making, innovative thinking, and problem-solving as well as being open and flexible to change were the expected outcomes.

Being an active member of the Toastmasters International has also allowed me to enhance my oratory and communication skills and foster a high level of confidence which has helped me greatly in developing my leadership status over the years. Leaders are required to have good oratory skills and interpersonal skills. I have realized that by being a good speaker, you are able to “sell” your ideas to the audience than using vested authority to make them accepted.
