? Human Resource of Google Inc. al Affiliation Google Inc. was established in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, two s from the University of Stanford. It is a global technology company focused on improving ways of communication. The organization has set up several goals and a mission to help in the improvement of the organization welfare, some these goals are: develop innovation, boost infrastructure and have adequate tools running throughout. The organization has a mission to bring together information from all over the World and making it accessible to everyone. The Organization culture and environment is entirely focused on the employees, customer and the effects of technology on the environment. The googlers of Google Inc. enjoy many benefits like: If a Google Employee dies his spouse gets half of the salary for 10 years, free gourmet food, swimming and paid maternity leave for mums and dads. The organization also has its downside, even with its benefits. Some of these limitations are: poor pay, threats from other social networks, Government interference and lack of privacy. Facebook has become one of Google`s Inc. main threats. This is because it has managed to take over the social website and most of the employees of Google Inc. Keywords: Google Inc., Googlers, Google, Employees, Benefits, Problems, Reasons. Google Inc. is a technological company focused on improving the way people connect with information. Google Inc. was founded in 1998 by two students from Stanford University, Larry Page and Sergey Brin. They turned Google Inc. into a global technology leader, overruling its international competitors in providing search engines like Yahoo, Gmail, Baidu and Microsoft. The Organization mission is, “To organize the world`s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”(about.com, 2012). Several goals have been setup to help in the company`s growth; the company plans to advance infrastructure so as to make their engineers more productive, to be the best search company in the world, to make sure that their tools are running everywhere and to focus on innovation. The company`s culture is entirely made by the people in it. They focus on hiring smart, determined people with experience. However, googlers share acceptable goals and mission for the organization and speak multiple languages, this reflects the kind of audience they serve. The organization strives to maintain an open-culture, but there are establishments associated with this culture, in which everyone is a contributor and there is freedom of opinion, and idea sharing. Researchers, have the liberty to directly ask the founders, Larry &Sergey, questions about any company issues. The offices are setup to encourage interaction among the googlers and others. Google`s plan for environment is to invest in a clean energy corporation, which uses kites to trap wind power, and they plan to invest largely on renewable sources that generate more electricity. Google Inc. operates enormous data centers around the world that uses a great deal of power, their primary concern is to search data fast, which means a lot of energy burns. Google infrastructure sends data from data that answers fast, nevertheless the system minimizes delays that raise energy consumption. If a Google employee dies his/her spouse gets half of his/her salaries for the next 10 years, new policies have been introduced to cater for widowers of Google employees. No administration is required to receive this benefit, and everyone is eligible to receive these benefits, regardless of how long they have worked in Google. Other than the half salary, the spouse receives stock benefits and the children receive $1,000 per month until they turn 19(Love, Business Insider, 2012). These benefits also apply to same sex couples. These benefits show that the Human Resource is concerned, not only about its employee, but also about the employees’ family. Expectant mothers and husbands also have benefits like: 18weeks maternity leave and 6 weeks paternity leave for fathers and they receive payment even on parental leave (International Labor Office, 2000). Parental leave is given for the interest of the child; it aims at improving and influencing equity between both sexes. Responsibility of the child is increased, if both parents take leave during childbirth. This parental leave exercises the duty of a father in taking care and responsibility for his family. Parental leave is compulsory to every employee; the Human Resource manager in Google Inc. permits this leave and it improves employee and Human Resource relations. Equality in employment: the organization employs people from all walks of life and all kinds of ages and gender like, black, white, Americans, Africans, gays, lesbians. Equal opportunity in employment is a vital aspect it shows responsibility and not discrimination in an organization. Equality is very important, this is because it prevents discrimination, and if the Human Resource manager exercises this equality these policies are enhanced and improved. Gourmet foods are available all the time, in Google Inc. Food shouldn’t be hundred meters’ away from the employee. Assess to healthy food is important because it protect the employee from workplace chemicals and noise. The employees need to eat in order to work efficiently and to prevent employees from malnutrition. Employees efficiency and hard work, is very fundamental in an organization and if the employees in Google Inc. are well feed the HR manager is able to train and develop the employees welfare. Feedback and tracking procedures, is a process of leading people to behavior and performance that are appropriate to any situation. Feedback is essentially important for the growth and learning of an organization, it helps in improving results in an organization. The Human Resource Management benefits when employees at Google Inc. give out suggestions, and feedback about their services or products. This is because they are able to learn about what people think about their services and hence improve on the things that the customers don’t accord to. With this process, the Human Resource department is able to know if it needs to hire more employees, so as to meet the customers’ demands. The Google Inc. workers and their households are insured with travel allowance and medical indemnity. Google Inc. offers travel insurance and medical cover during family holiday. This benefit has improved the lives of the employees and their families, and brought broken families together. This is because, if a family is happy the employee reports to work, and works with diligence, and this has improved the aspect of Human Resource. All work without rest, is unhealthy for the employee, the Google Company has introduced privileges like swimming pools, hairs cuts free of charge, video games, laundry services and massage programs. These benefits have improved the employee work-life, association. Improvement of Human Resource has increased the provision of these privileges and the employee performance at the workplace. Every organization has its merits and demerits, and Google Inc. has also its disadvantages. Some of the demerits that Google Inc. is currently facing are: 1. The growth of a social networking giant Facebook: Facebook is a fast growing social website that has more than a millions users. Google has tried to come up with its own social website as a result of the fast growing social website. Facebook has become a major threat of Google and it provides a blind spot for Google, this is because Google can’t search data from a walled off open interest from the Facebook website. 2. The obstacle that China is throwing in its path: China is a fast growing business center for countries around the world and Google was introduced to enhance business growth in China but it has failed in its cause. The Google has grown but the Chinese business is still lagging behind. This is because the Chinese Government is slowing down the Google connection. Google`s interest is to continue offering its services in China, without having to hand over the source code to the Government. Baidu is slowly taking over the market in China. 3. The fast growth of Apple mobile innovation: Google has spent most of its resources and time, trying to overshadow Microsoft with Apple cell phone. Apple mobile innovation has decided to use Android Mobile operating System but frequently Google has slowly trailed behind in innovation. With the introduction of Apple, and its creation for tablet software and ways of buying goods from within an App, this is modeled for business. 4. Lack of privacy: A number of blunders have been made by Google, when it comes to privacy, such as WI-FI password. Many complaints have accused Google for exposing their names, with the people they communicate with. Google, agreed to let the Federal Trade Commission to review its privacy procedures after every couple of years. It seems still the privacy procedure hasn’t improved. Recently, CNN wrote about how Google is exploring a service that allows people to identify faces in a photo and this was a perfect service for stalkers. Google has had its problems when it comes to the departure of employees, even with its considerable benefits, some of the employees reason for withdrawal are: 1. Less payment as compared to competitors: Over the years, Google has hired great people and innovators but paid them less than their competitors. That only worked when Google was a new organization. Most of the employees are leaving Google for hotter property like Facebook and Google isn’t adapting well to these happenings. Thanks to the control in the market search. 2. Poor Management and lack of advanced opportunity: Research has found out that Google was strong in experimenting frugally, but weak in valuing human relationship and encouraging teamwork. 3. Frustration of freedom: Google Inc. employees want to work in a cutting edge of technology, develop products for millions of people to use and to get a chance to own shares before selling to the public, but Google instead sold shares to the public before letting its employee buy some of this shares. 4. The policy of allowing employees to spend 20% of their time on self-directed projects: This may sound exciting, and it may lead to more innovative ideas that Google can’t commercialize. People spend a lot of time on these projects, because Google couldn’t have a system for killing mediocre ideas and promoting the best ideas, which lead to employee frustration. Many employees preferred to hide their talent, and they were unhappy for spending their lives on something that wasn’t of use. The number of people leaving Google Inc. is not clearly stated but the highest numbers of people leaving are from the Engineering Department. The reasons for the exits are: 1. Going for better and bigger offers: Most of the former employees left Google and Microsoft for Facebook. Facebook offers employees with a chance to give ideas and opinions for a better offer. 2. Poor management: Most of the employees who left complained of poor management from Larry Page. He changed how Google Inc. operated, how the management was working and increased poor relations with the employees. 3. Discouragement: Many engineers were discouraged or disallowed from doing things that were too clever, and these would demotivate the employees. Due to the many blunders and problems Google Inc. has had, it may have lost its credibility to Facebook, making Facebook the most preferred company. Google Inc. has been one of the biggest corporations in the world, hundreds of people dream of working there. Since it`s commencement in 1998, when it was established by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, it has growth to be a big and powerful corporation. Its numerous benefits have attracted many people from all walks of life, but this has not been easy for many job seekers because the corporation hires the smart, skilled and experienced employees. This company has also had its limitations, as it loses most of its employees to other social websites like Facebook and this has resulted to Facebook becoming a major threat of Google Inc.
