The Roles of the Alamo in Texas Revolution of 1836 The siege and aftermaths of the Alamo in 1836 is the most illustrious military rendezvous in the history of Texas. The war was in the limelight since many eminent individuals participated in its combatant. The by the then president of Mexico Antonio Santa Anna were among the personalities who spearheaded the battle. William Beret was the commander during the Alamo war. Not to forget, David Crockett and James Bowie also did a distinguished job in the mighty Alamo war. Quite a number of the Americans and the Texans the war has great historical value to the region. They value the Alamo war as the most significant symbol of chauvinism and patriotism at large. Addressing the Texas revolution, one has to commence by the great Alamo war because it is the foundation and base of the revolution. The roles Alamo war played in the revolution are too profound. Alamo is a momentous edifice in the epicenter of San Antonio. An illustrious fight was battled there from Feb. 23 to March 6, 1836, throughout the struggle for Texan independence. Another name for the Alamo is the Thermopylae by the America, subsequent to the legendary fight in that the primordial Greeks seized off a huge Persian vigor. No Texans run-away from the Alamo afterwards from the nightfall of March 5. The Alamo is now a reestablished momentous place. The tension between the Mexicans and the Texans grew to higher levels up to a point it broke into violence. The Mexicans sparked the Texan battle for independence and freedom when the Mexicans exasperated to disarm the natives of Gonzales. Earlier on, Texas was part and parcel of the mighty Spanish empire. As time went by, the number of Spanish significantly reduced in the Texan land. As the number of Spanish reduced, the number of Mexican settlers increased in Texas (Smith and Michael 46). After obtaining independence from the Spanish, Mexico brought in as many Anglo-American immigrants to stay in Texas as possible. They pretended to be faithful citizens though they maintained ties with America. The Fight of the Alamo is the greatest legendary combat in Texas’ struggle for liberation. Situated in the capital metropolitan of San Antonio, the castle was regarded by sundry as vital to overwhelming the Mexican Army, and the guards selected to stopover and combat regardless of definite bereavements. During the period of the cordon, the commander-in-chief of the garrison, Colonel David Crockett, was extremely sick. He had severe health complications. Therefore, the duty of leading the throngs fell to Lt. Colonel William Travis, who referred for cavalries when he became cognizant of Santa Annas men gyrating the Garrison on February 23, 1836. After, eighteen days after the commencement of the siege. On the eighth day of the siege, thirty-two people who came from Gonzales, Texas, came to assist the Alamo in the battle. These men increased the total number of the troops to two hundred men. Shortly afterwards, on March 10, the opponents got reinforcement of roughly one thousand and one hundred men. Santa Anne, the dictator, commenced planning his last attack. Travis, on the other hand, encouraged his men to fight with vigor. He told the soldiers never to leave the fort. His might and courage inspired the warriors. They had to guard their fort with all their strength. They believed you either died for the independence of the nation or kill. The subsequent day Santa Annas warriors conquered the fort, homicide all of the enduring troops of Texas. Santa Anna decreed his soldiers to batter the fortification with big guns and rummage fire for a period of over ten days and nights. His primary aim was to wear out the opponent soldiers in the garrison. As it goes, a weary soldier fights less. The war was troop severe that most of the soldiers succumbed. However, they never retreated since they believed that they either die or bring independence to the prominent Texas. In the Alamo Travis and the other Texans sent messages to Santa Anna. He demanded more supplies and men. They composed their war music just like the opponents. A blast from Travis men’s 18 pounder sent an urgent message to Santa Anna. Travis sent pleas for help everywhere necessary. Most of the towns except Gonzales headed to his plea. Gonzales was the last group to reinforce Alamo. They arrived on 2 March. They brought relief to the troops in Alamo. The total number of the troops increased. Santa Anna’s army advanced to the two hundred yards. That was by the year 1836 around 6th, March at 4:00p.m. One of the columns of the Mexican soldiers ambushed the Alamo. Santa Anna’s first charge was rebuffed so was the second, by the lethal fire of howitzers from Travis. The North wall of near the beach and area close to the chapel and the other in the Toluca Battalion were attacked. Very many soldiers lost their lives (Tucker 91). The war was too severe people fought with their strengths. The triumphant songs motivated the soldiers. The desire for independence was the motivating factor to the Texans. They had planted the tree of freedom so were they to water it with blood. Of all the soldiers, only one hundred and thirty came out alive. The rest perished. However, the war was too crude. People fought with very crude weapons such as fists, knees, pikes, lances, knives and pistols. Most people fought hand to hand. Blood spilled everywhere. Bodies of dead people were scattered everywhere. The barricade of the Alamo continued for thirteen days. Up to the date of fifth March, the battalion could not return Mexican fire since missiles were small. The situation convinced Santa Anna the great that the garrison could be assailed. First the ensuing dawn, the Mexicans thrived in surmounting the parapets. The result was too hazardous to the Texans. In the end, many corpses occupied every single space in the fort. Throughout the convent, the entrance that leads to the church, the barracks and the interior parts of the church were full of blood. The war lasted only for ninety minutes though many casualties resulted from the war. The scene was horrific. Parents cried for their lost sons. But, all in all, these deaths were what brought some sanity in Texas. People were tired with colonialism, and they offered to pay anything for the sake of their independence. All the Texans perished in the Alamo war. Over five hundred Mexicans got injuries from the Alamo war. Moreover, over one thousand five hundred Mexican men lost their lives in the war. Conversely, Santa Anna gaily dismissed the whole thing of conquering Alamo as a very minute issue to him. Like demanding for more blood, he argued that it was a small affair. However, one of the great men among his officer assured him another such war will ruin them forever (Donovan 72). The Texans were heaped up and mixed with fuel then burnt in the bush. One month two days after the war, as the Mexican soldiers was still ailing their wounds. Santa Anna encountered his Waterloo at San Jacinto. Those soldiers who perished on the fortifications of Alamo had credited their precious lives time required for Sam Houston, the general, to fuse a potency that made Texas win its independence. History can never forget such monumental sacrifice. Travis anticipated war to his death. After thorough discussions, The Texas Affirmation of November 7, 1835, announced that the Texan battle was in contradiction of Mexico predominantly envisioned to bring back the constitution of the year 1824. The law was rescinded by the activities of Leader Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, for him to accomplish discrete Mexican statehood for the country of Texas’s. The participants of the Conference had expected to fascinate prevalent sustenance for the Texan reason originating from the other states in Mexico. The fight of San Jacinto was the last martial episode of the revolution of Texas.in the year 1886, a month of March; the revolutionary military at Gonzales arose to departure and moved towards the east. It traversed the river of Colorado and slept outdoors adjacent to the present Columbia on in the month of March twentieth, conscripting and assistances having augmented its magnitude to over one thousand men. Sam Houstons emissaries recounted Mexican hordes that were towards the west of the Colorado to figure bigger than one thousand three hundred men (Kirkpatrick and Kirkpatrick 19). The fight of the Alamo is a long-Significant pictogram of gallantry in the face of indomitable odds. Even though the fight itself took only ninety minutes, it was the zenith of a thirteen-day cordon by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Annas throngs alongside the outstripped populaces of the garrison. It is the spot where some of Americas most illustrious folklores, comprising Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie, perished. In summary, the roles of the Alamo war are far much reaching. On June after the war some militants tried a coup de tat that never succeeded. They were agitating for constitutional reforms in Texas. However, an election was organized to answer the cries of the many citizens. From the election, Houston won and became the first president of Texas. Houston transformed the Nation. He changed the constitution. In that aspect, Alamo war brought about redrafting of the Texas Constitution. Houston requested for the annexation of Texas to USA. However, the law outlawed fee blacks from staying in Texas perpetually. In addition, women lost their vital rights in the new constitution. Works Cited Kirkpatrick, Dean, and Kirkpatrick, Andrew.
