Violations of Human Rights and Slavery Besides causing traumatizing experiences amongst Africans, slave trade violated the rights of the African slaves and their families (Cooper n.p.). To begin with, slaves were kidnapped from their homes and upon arriving at the slave castles they were congested in dark rooms with very tiny sources of light and ventilation. Due to congestion, some of the slaves succumbed to suffocation and died each day, while others were sentenced to death and locked in rooms with no ventilation or light to die.
The whites did little to value the lives of Africans and congested them in rooms that had no proper sanitation for months (Public Broadcasting Services n.p.). Even after waiting for such long, they were again forced onto slave ships. Furthermore, travelling inside slave ships exposed slaves to further inhumanity as they were packed as human cargo in the Middle Passage. Upon arrival into America, slaves had to deal with dehumanizing effects that destroyed their African culture. Although slave trade is no longer practiced in America today, Friglich, Kent, Hess, Mclyntyre, & Allen, (1-6) confirm that there still are 10 states in America that deemed to be the worse for African American to live in.
The index used to determine the ten states included household income, rates of home ownership, educational attainment costs, educational attainments, and poverty rates. These states are Connecticut, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Arkansas, New Jersey, Kansas, Rhode island, Illinos, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. In these states, the disparity between the White and Black Americans is very pronounced resulting to uneven accessibility of job opportunities, payment, and better housing. In addition to discrimination, African americans have been stereotyped as lazy and are left to deal with their problems.
