Anna Tsing’s Friction is an insightful literature that focuses the processes of globalization. The literature talks about the similar aspects of globalization that affected the Indonesian region in 1980s and 1990s when globalization took its toll and capitalism was widely practiced. It emphasizes on the resistance of people on the face of rapid change and development to meet with the present day global needs. The book’s focal point is global capitalism. She aims to find the grounds for global interconnectedness among nations. In the literature she aspires to seek the downsides of global capitalism and the perimeters of social justice in the contemporary world.
Anna Tsing’s has talked about the friction that the people of Indonesia showed when the frontier of capitalism was made. It created wilderness and many issues arose. Even though Indonesians tried to illegalize the shift of cultivation but the impact of globalization was too impulsive and strong. The book circles around prosperity, knowledge and freedom these topics are then sub divided into seven sub parts to understand Tsing’s ethnography. She believes that it is an absolute false impression when one talks about unification and globalization together. Many may think globalization brings about homogeneity whereas in reality it is much more brutal then that. Human nations across regions can’t be same and in the process of making them similar to each other creates chaos among ideologies and cultures.
