Movie Review: Political films Movie Review: Political films The two films that I believe have the potential to transform one’s political sensibilities pertaining deep differences are John Pilger’s War on Democracy and Matthew Heineman’s Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare. These are films that revolve around the whole aspect of differences in political opinions and their effects.
War on Democracy by John Pilger
In this film, John Pilger delves into the growing political struggles witnessed in South America and how the US responded to them. In its opening, the film goes into a vivid introduction on the social and political changes that have been seen in Venezuela since Hugo Chaves was elected in 1998. In this film, Pilgers interviews Hugo Chavez. One of the notable topics in the interview concerns the role of the US government in their opposition of the government’s reform programme (Thorn, 2007). There is also the aspect of the US trying to overthrow Chavez’s government. This film has the ability to transform ones sensibilities bearing in mind the zeal that US’s actions gave to Chavez’s resolution to transform his country.
Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare by Matthew Heineman
This is a recent movie that delves into the dramatic exchange between President Obama and the republican congress that were hostile to the healthcare bill. It also features into the lobbyists as well as cooperate powers that thrive in keeping people sick. With the buzz that this film has created, it can only reinforce the effect that democracy politics has on its constituents. The burdened victim here is the American citizen since they have to bear all the consequences of the scuffle (Heineman, n.d). With such a film about democracy, transformation of one’s sensibilities is realized.
