However, it is because of this argument and his view on Argentine that he touches on his audience in a direct way. This is in the way that he focuses on Argentine through different perspectives that include its physical features as well as the history related to its people. Thus by bringing out the countries issues in different parts, Sarmiento is able to create a whole of the important issues. It is with this that he is able to bring out the two parts of division in the forms of character found in Argentine.

These are expressed in the form of the physical surroundings that comprise of the pampa and city and the ways of life that include cattle ranching and urban production1. Sarmiento takes an interesting approach about Argentine in the sense that he divides the book into three major sections. The first part discusses the people of Argentine as the first study of a national character. In this part, he uses the style of the Herder and Montesquieu where he traces the national character of the physical appearance of the plains and their climate as well as the social effects that result from the solitude attendant and great distances similar to those of the kind of production that is related to grazing.

In the book Facundo: civilization or barbarism Sarmiento highlights some of the development strategies that are needed in Argentina. He does this by employing the various parameters of thinking. The first one is through the employment of human history in argentine as is related to the early independence years. They include factors such as the development of the region, power, culture and modernization. However, he employs the approach of criticism to rebuke most of those actions that were not being performed in the correct manner.
