A new engagement The book provides a remarkable range of analysis on the political and civic engagement of the American society. The book inquires on the questions that have long interested students on the subject of politics. These questions addressed in the book include the extent of participation of citizens in politics and their reasons for participating or failure to participate politically. The book also discusses the beliefs these Americans have on the concepts of citizenship, government, and democracy.

The central argument of the book focuses on the participation of young Americans in politics (Zukin 59). The book provides that these individuals born after 1965 have changed their character rather than declining it. Accordingly, they are equally likely to participate in civic life compared to the older citizens. The book discusses the difference in the participation of individuals of different age groups in politics civic life and mainly the emergence of attitudinal profiles among the young generation.

There is evidence to challenge the argument of gradual and persistent decline in engaging men, in the subject, and hope the new forms provide the opportunity for a strengthened political system. The authors confirm the conclusion of the fall of traditional forms of political engagements especially among the young generation (Zukin 66). They analyze the connection between the behavior and attitude of individuals and conceptualize the people’s feelings on these agendas. The book provides the qualitative and quantitative change in the voice of individuals by structural structures and the increased dominance in politics.

Although the approach provides a lot of information, it conceals the structural features of civic engagement and disengagement. Although changing the individual attitudes play a crucial part in changing patterns of political and civic engagements, they are not the sole factor nor the most influential factors.Work citedZukin, Cliff. A New Engagement: Political Participation, Civic Life, and The Changing American Citizen. Oxford University Press, 2006. Print.
