Reading response Fredric Jameson in his essay ‘Postmodernism and Consumer Society’ describes the concept of postmodernism as it evolved from high modernism. Jean Baudrillardnin ‘The Ecstasy of Communication’ describes how technology has made communication in the world today obsceneJameson (2) indicates “Pastiche is one of the most significant features or practices of postmodernism”. Pastiche generally involves the imitation of other styles (Jameson 2). At this point, I agree with the author since most cultures are developed based on aspects adopted from other styles/ cultures.

Post modernism developed from high modernism. However, Postmodernism may not entirely be based on imitation of other styles. There are cases where individuals develop unique styles that cannot be done by anyone else. The use of pastiche is seen in music, poetry, film industry and even buildings. Indeed imitation of others styles is an important characteristic of the world today. Therefore, Pastiche creates the link between classical modernism and postmodernism. It is great how the writer brings out this link.

It should be noted that the imitated style is often modified to fit personal preferences and interestsIn the second essay, the writer talks of “Free radio: it speaks, it sings, it expresses itself. It is the sympathetic obscenity of its content” (Baudrillard 131). The writer is referring to obscenity in the communication sector. As we know the communication, industry affects everyone from kids to adults. I agree with the fact that the media has been given a lot of freedom. This is not bad, but the fact that they abusing this freedom is very unfortunate.
