Task The Marshall Plan emphasized on military preparedness putting into consideration the sacrifices that were made by the allies in pursuit 2nd World War victory. In the excerpt, For the Common Defense, 1945, Marshall blamed the leaders, both foreign and domestic, of being too idealistic. Security policies do not translate to war policies and the Germans have defined war because they gave it considerable thought. This is criminal, and a law prohibiting war should be enforced by democratic agencies.

When Hitler tried to impose his will, USA was one of the countries vulnerable to his (Hitler’s) conquests because USA had no standing army in the field. Twice in history, farms, factories and the American people have resisted aggressor nations and this emphasizes the fact that peace conspirators cannot give America a third chance to defend itself. Peace of the entire world is critical for human kind. Professional armies are expensive (Johnson, 2008). Large armies are also a disadvantage because wars are fought with the input of massive national resources.

Peacetime energy should be directed to gainful labour. Universal Military Training entails Americans preparing themselves in service to their country in peace maintenance or standing up against tragic hours when peace is undermined incase such a misfortune overtakes the nation. Technology in a war is vital; technology also has an effect on the country’s economy. Atomic bombs require services from millions of men if compelled to fight again. The war made it clear that the nation’s security was paramount, and virtually all males who are able-bodied and fall within certain military groups defined by age, should contribute their services in the defense of the nation.

In Document 27-5, President Dwight D.Eisenhower read his farewell speech to the nation where he assessed the gains made in the 1950s and the threats that these gains would attract. The American state had been involved in three of the previous wars and the leadership prestige does not depend on material progress, military strength or riches only: it depends on how the country uses its acquired power and strength to achieve world peace interests and settlement of humans. The nation had the capacity to contribute to peace in the world as the globe’s most developed country at the time.

The basic purpose of America’s adventure in pursuance of free government has been to keep peace and to achieve progress in achievements of humans. Arrogance has to be avoided, and in some times, costly action becomes the solution to any crisis whether small or magnified. Progress towards goals that are noble has been threatened by world conflicts that command and absorb peoples’ attention. Balances and checks should be kept in pursuit of progress otherwise, frustration and imbalance would grow.

There are threats everywhere glaring at America. The most vital element in maintaining peace is the military establishment. Until the last of America’s involvement in world conflicts, the country had no industry taking care of its Armament needs. Improvisation of the nation’s defense is paramount and the country has been compelled to develop a permanent industry for armaments with vast proportions (Johnson, 2008). Arms must be mighty and ready for action to scare away any aggressor(s). The military is indispensable in the pursuance and maintenance of peace but there should be no influence by the industrial-military entity.

There is a need for this kind of development but there should be an understanding about the implications of this kind of complex. The country’s resources, toil, and livelihood are involved in this kind of setup. It is the duty of diplomacy to create, balance and integrate these forces (the new and the old) within democratic systems, aiming at the highest goals of free foreign and domestic societies. Composing differences should be done using decent purpose, intellect, and not using arms.
