(Your Huey Long Share of Wealth 1935 Louisiana’s governor Huey Long became very popular and a huge amount of population followed him because of his services for the state. During 1932, he became a member of the US Senate and he was supporting Franklin D Roosevelt. Later his relationship with the president ended and he initiated a nationwide movement called “Share Our Wealth”. This movement was initiated to replace the New Deal. The details of Long’s Share of Wealth movement are as follows:Long proposed that each family was to be aided with an income of at least one third of the amount of average family capital (Edsforth 208).

This meant that every family was to be aided with an income of $2000 per year. The movement even stated that no family would be allowed to earn more than hundred or three hundred times the total size of average family earnings. Therefore, no family can earn more than 0.6m to 1.8m per year. The movement stated that up-to-date technology should be used for production, as this will help in increasing production and meeting the needs of the public. Using modern technology will even provide workers with enough time to obtain education, and conduct recreational activities.

The movement even proposed pensions for people aging 60+ and healthcare for the veterans of war plus additional benefits for them.The movement proposed that free education should be provided to all students of vocational institutes, universities, schools and colleges. The movement even stated that the practice of destroying additional production of commodities should be terminated and government must store the excess produce so that produce can be used during the period of under production. The money to finance all these activities, funds will be obtained from reduction in the wealth of wealthy class.
