More of Gandhi's methods to achieve his ultimate goal of an independent India were marching and making speeches. Gandhi took many followers to Darishima Salt Works, at which they made two lines formed of men while women were setting up hospital tents nearby. Gandhi and another man were first to attempt to get through the gates, which only resulted in multiple beatings. But still, the men marched up to the gate. Man after man beaten and taken away by the women to the hospital. Gandhi also made many important speeches.

One very important one was when Gandhi told the Indians only to wear homespun. He told them to wear homespun He also spoke about boycotting British goods so that caused the British hardships. Gandhi fasted many times nearly until he was too weak to even speak. He would fast for days in order to prove to his people that fighting was wrong and that non-violence should be used. In one incident Gandhi, while in jail decided to undergo a 'fast until death.' He refused to end until the British improved the states of the Hindu untouchables.

Another time was when he fasted after the British granted India its independence and a riot broke out between the Hindus and the Moslems. Gandhi wanted these two religions to get along peacefully. All these fasts were successful methods of non-violence.One of Gandhi's Methods was civil disobedience. Civil disobedience is where you do not follow a law that you believe was unjust and are willing to accept the punishment. IN the movie Gandhi says 'the strength of civil resistance is that they are not in control, we are.

' There were many examples of this statement. The first example is when Gandhi was a young man and was riding on a train first-class to India. He was ordered to move to the back where the blacks and lower class Indians rode. (Laskowski 8-8) He refused because he thought it wasn't right for an English taught man and a subject of the British empire to be riding in the back with lower-class people. He was thrown off the train and at that moment he promised himself that he would change the ways of the British.

A second example was during the burning of the passes. Gandhi was beaten by the British soldiers for the burning of the Indian passes. When Gandhi was beaten he didn't strike back or stop burning the passes. The third example is when Gandhi told the Indians to wear their homespun cloth with pride so the British would shut down their factories. Gandhi also practiced Civil Disobedience by his famous 'March to Sea.' In this event, Gandhi marched to the sea with many devoted followers to make salt.

In India making your own salt was illegal. The British knew that if they controlled the salt they would control the people. All living things need salt so Gandhi used this to show that if it is an Indian ocean it is Indian salt and they should be allowed to make it. Gandhi made his own salt and started a salt-making movement.
