Black Athena - Book Report/Review Example

The book tries to explore the myth or theory of the human intellectual superiority that extends back to the ancient times of the Greek history. The major content of this theory was based on the pillars of racism as shown in the theory of Aryan origins. They were considered as the northern predominantly most civilized people. The Greeks were depicted as the founders of the European culture and many historians and classists have based most of their arguments in this myth. They also believed in coming of the Egyptians and Phoenicians to Greece, most of the Greek people adopted the Egyptians and Phoenicians culture therefore they were colonized by the Egyptians as stated (Lefkowitz 532).

Bermal tries to explain to what extents the Romans and Greece took most of the Egyptians culture and used them as their own. The kinds of the culture that were fully adopted by the Greece are arts and letters that they have used without appreciating the role that was played by Egyptians who claims they are the original founders of these concepts. This is used to contradict the facts that there is no kind of the African culture that ever played any role in ensuring the worlds civilization. It is disputing the roles played by Egyptians due to the fact that they from Africa geographically.

It is summarized that ‘Blacks are always servile’. It confirms that the world existed with people inside it and it was never a vacuum and that there is no human race as Negro and it could not contribute in any kind of civilization. Other contents of the book also alluded that there is no connection between blacks and white in terms of human species and it further supported this kind of thought that Negros were lacking the moral sensations as human beings. It discusses the disconnections and the discords that existed amongst these people.

The history of the blacks was thus rendered blank and not consequential. In the Negro’s Place in Nature it is evident that these are the kinds of people with very inferior intellectual capacity as ascertained by Dr. James Hunt of London Anthropological Society in 1864 (Lefkowitz 522). The Negros was considered to be having a brain that could not exceed eighty five cubic inches. The Indo-European families were the only ones considered superior to some extent due to the reason that they had a mixture of blood from the superior sources.

This made them have some significant influence in initiation of civilization. The book looked at the afro centric historiography as very inferior. Bermal claimed that the Egyptians participated in fabrications of the ancient Greece by diluting their culture using theirs. He further describes the kind of the culture of the Egyptians to be an easily influenced one when he claims that science racism played a very important role in 18th century to significantly shift it from the Egyptophilia to Egyptophobia.

He continues to explain how science influenced there ways of lives and the activities they used to participate in on a daily basis. (Lefkowitz 512). The scientists like Palter demonstrated that there was no any kind of shift that was witnessed and that the truth that should be accepted is the kind of contribution that the Egyptians made in the Greek culture. They hold the belief that any other kind of claim should be ignored as not having any foundational background. Another important aspect in the Black Athena is how Bermal failed to correctly identify the ethnic content of the Egyptians.
