2). Representative Pelosi serves on seven different committees. She is the ranking Democrat on the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and she is the co-chair of the AIDS Task Force of the Democratic Caucus. In addition to those two committees, she also serves on the Committee on Appropriations, Banking and Financial Services Committee, Committee on Standards of Office Conduct and Ethics, Congressional Working Group on China, and the Executive Committee of the Democratic Study Group (Profile, para. 9). Nancy Pelosi works directly for the people for the 12th Congressional District of California.

For her constituency alone, she can be reached via email. She also provides direct access to her office via telephone. Representative Pelosi also has a regular newsletter that she sends to all in the district who ask for it. This newsletter keeps the people of San Francisco informed about current political happenings and provides information about how people can give their input on various issues affecting the constituency at large. Her website states that her office will attempt to help with assistance with federal agencies, consumer preparedness, purchasing flags, and helping notify constituents of grant opportunities (Representative, para. 3). Recently, Representative Pelosi voted ‘yea’ on House Bill S 47. . Beyond this, the bill authorizes service, protection, and justice for young victims of violence.

The 12th Congressional District of California seemed to be largely supportive of Pelosi’s yes vote, and Nancy Pelosi herself was present when President Obama signed the bill into law (Bill Summary, para. 1-15). Being in office for 25 years, Nancy Pelosi has developed quite a following. As with most national politicians, Pelosi must raise substantial amounts of money in order to stand for election every two years. Here top five contributors during the most recent campaign were Occidental Petroleum, Gall Winery, Mackenzie Patterson Fuller, Susman Godfrey Lip, and Wells Fargo.

The top industries donating to her campaign were health professional, securities & investments, law firms, real estate, and interestingly enough, retired individuals (Nancy Pelosi 2013) An Important Political Issue As one would expect from someone in public office for 25 years, Representative Pelosi has refined her position on a number of issues during that time. She is a strong advocate of women’s rights, anti-discrimination measures, and education reform, just to name a few. One issue that she is particularly outspoken about, however, is the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered individuals (LGBT).

San Francisco, the city where Representative Pelosi hails from and represents, is home to a particularly strong LGBT population and she has worked hard to represent them. Pelosi states, “Since my first day in Congress, ending discrimination against gays and lesbians has been a top priority” (Representative, para. 1). Recently she fought for the repeal of the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Policy
