Political diversions emerged during Washington’s first administration, one of the sides choosing to favor commerce while the other agriculture. The two conception of America’s future led to the emergence of two political parties in 1790s and as events unfolded, they contested over several issues. Alexander Hamilton was the Secretary of the Treasury from 1789 to 1795 and saw US as having a future in commerce and manufacturing. He was a major proponent of the new constitution, and his appointment to the treasury enabled him promote concepts of a great nation that is molded from Great Britain.

Hamilton’s efforts of fostering commerce and manufacturing led to partisan disputes, and those who adhered to his policies were later known as Federalists. Federalists favored commercial development, a high tariff that spurs manufacturing, national bank, and presence of a strong government capable of loosely interpreting the constitution. Federalists had little enthusiasm towards western expansion and went ahead to support the right of Native Americans to own and retain their land. Republican Party on the other hand favored interpretation of the new constitution that opposed central government and federal privileges for commerce and manufacturing.

Republican Party thought Hamilton’s plans infringed the rights of the state by helping few citizens and other’s expense. . Situation of these countries became perilous with the French declaration of war to both Spain and Britain. The French revolution cost the French support from US and particularly Federalist support because they feared the civilians would take over power from them. Republicans remained sympathetic to the French due to their hatred towards monarchial Britain. Increased Expansion to the West and conflicts with the inhabitants United States settlers migrated across Appalachians extending their commercial activities until the time they came into contact with the Spanish.

17902 was the year the Spanish controlled North America, from East Florida to Louisiana, New York, Texas through to California. The Spanish viewed borderlands as mere buffers against US and British designers. Besides the warning of the growth of American populations, the Spanish went ahead and opened their territories to Americans with the intention of bolstering their small population. The Spanish land of Florida and Louisiana were offered freely; the Spanish went ahead and allowed the Protestants to keep their religion as long as they keep allegiance to the Crown and baptize their children in the Catholic religion.

Spain was unable to provide desired consumer goods hence it relaxed its mercantilist restrains to traders. The new economic policies facilitated US acquisition of Louisiana, and in 1791 Jefferson commented on the way Spain delivered what was otherwise supposed to be delivered through war. There was peace between Comanches, Apaches and the Spanish and this was enhanced by signing of treaties in order to recognize their sovereignty.
