The book is a memoir of her encounter as a Jew for the duration of the holocaust. Also, the book talks of her existence before the Hitler’s administration. In addition, she talks about her father and mother and provides a number of photos of his father and mother in the book. In this paper will be an analysis of the factors that contributed to Judith Magyar Isaacson’s survival and experience during the time of the Holocaust. Judith speaks of the looks that a Jew had to have and how she had a high regard for her father’s nose. Her father’s nose was straight. Judith feared having the same nose as her mother because it bent when it was close to the tip. Her fear for her mother’s nose was not because she considered it to look ugly, but because it was not similar to the Aryan appearance. The head of state, Hitler, made a declaration that the ideal human being should have the Aryan look. The Aryan appearance was made up of an extremely proportional facial structure. Moreover, Hitler’s administration had unique measurement methods that helped to determine this look. Also, an individual with an Aryan appearance had to have blue eyes and blond hair. Nonetheless, there were a number of developments or circumstances that contributed for Judith’s survival. ...
In the book, Judith Magyar Isaacson highlights these factors. Judith’s physical appearance and psychological makeup made a tremendous contribution to her survival. She was extremely intelligent and hyper-vigilant. Other than that, she had a terrific facility with a different language other than the Jewish language. She also got help from other people, in this case, mother and young aunt. The two women risk their lives for Judith by witching lines to form a union with her. She also believed an outside force assisted her mother, young aunty, and her to survive. This outside force was in the form of luck. In addition, she believed God had a hand in their survival. God’s need for the survivors to stay alive and His direct intercession to the survivors’ during hard times enabled them to continue to exist, “God help Dezso if he is called to labor service”, she said (Isaacson 32). Judith also believed miracles played a part in her survival during the holocaust. Miracle does not essentially mean the intervention of a deity being, but, in a number of cases be used to refer to a figure of speech. Judith believed apart from God’s miracle; the dead members of the Jew community were watching over them and her in particular. The dead members appeared to them in a dream or premonition form and directed them on what to do so that they could survive, for example, her grandmother who died in the gas chamber. Fate also played a role in her survival. She believed her survival and the ultimate survival of the Jews was meant to be or predestined. Also, chance or random situations which have no predestined strategy, she exclaimed, “Bomb shelters! They never miss a thing. ” (Isaacson 38). Second, factors affected by her will ...Download file to see next pagesRead More
