This paper aims to find out the role that race and class have contributed to the history of the USA. This is with great emphasis to the observations of Reginald Horsman, the author of Race and Manifest Destiny. The issues of race and class have contributed wholly in relation to the growth and maturity of the US. This is because of the observation of the different effects of the different issues that are as a result of the different races and classes. The survival of many races in the region depended on their contributions to the growth and sustainability of the States.
The author notes that over the years, many of the races and tribes in the region grew and matured to be formidable forces in the region. The Caucasians, Anglo-Saxons and Aryans all went through a tough historical moment to be a predominant race in the region at that time (Horsman, p 2). Their participation in the Mexican war and how it turned out created a path for them to effectively contribute to the history of the US. The results of the war ensured that they were classified as a predominant race.
Historically, this changed the way that they were perceived in the States at that time. They were given the respect that they deserved as they contributed in one way or the other to the stability after and during the war. The issue of slavery and the expulsion of minority races in the States contributed to the way that the United States was perceived (Horsman, p 2). The African American race in the United States and what they went through played a huge role in historical aspects of slavery. The African American race and their counterparts the Indians having experienced almost the same issues in the USA contributed significantly to the country’s history (Horsman, p 3).
This is one of the reasons that have led to the racial thoughts that are experienced in the region as a result of the historical injustices. This shows that the races, their experiences and what they have added to the community greatly influenced and shaped the mentality of the region in the past. Currently, all the major decisions are made in line with the mindset of avoiding all the mistakes that were made in the past. The racial abuse of the above mentioned races bore a hole in the relationship of the European and other races.
They were perceived as the main aggressors and contributors towards the growth of racism. The author notes that racism came into contact with many other factors that were used to classify certain races and classes of people. Around the same time, African Americans were deemed second class and very poor. This was because of their limited exposure to the amenities that would ensure that they continued to grow in a country that they were part of. This was unlike their European counterparts who got the best of everything in the society.
The differences lead to the friction between the two parties. From the early centuries, America was deemed the chosen country. This was because it had very many of its issues under control. This is in relation to the political, cultural, social and economic aspects (Horsman, p 4). The trend has been on an upward climb from then to date, the reason for these observations is because of how the country has struggled and arranged the issues of race and class. The superiority of all the races and classes is
